Possess Me at Midnight (The Doomsday Brethren, Book 3) by Shayla Black
Paranormal Romance- October 29th, 2009
5 stars
This book was all I expected and MORE. Shayla Black really delivers the goods in her 3rd installment of the Doomsday Brethren. Although this series is very complex Shayla Black’s clear writing catches your attention and keeps it! As soon as I began reading, I easily felt a part of the story. However, since there are an impressive list of characters and more being added in this latest book, a new reader might want to read one of the prior books to help orient you first.
In this story the smoldering and forbidden passion between Saybelle and Ice is finally realized! And the interaction between the 2 is a sheer adrenaline rush !
Shayla Black does a magnificent job of creating a sympathetic hero with a dark past. Ice is a Deprived male and as such viewed as expendable even as he helps the Doomsday cause. Ice was especially vilified when he went on a killing rampage after his sister was murdered. I really admired Ice. As I came to understand him and sympathize for the strong and fierce warrior he has become. Ice is honorable and misunderstood and driven to claim Saybelle even as he tries to protect her from his ‘tainted’ origins. Torn between the overwhelming mating urge that knows she is the only one for him and trying to keep her safe Ice is the perfect tortured hero. Sigh!
Saybelle tries to fight against the deep attraction for Ice because any real connection to him is futile since she is promised to a Privileged male. It was great to read as Saybelle ‘grew up’ and started to think about what she wanted besides her brother’s wishes for political gain. She had to take the leap to trust and open herself to Ice. The only frustrating section for me is that Saybelle took so long to ‘surrender’ to Ice. Really, why resist?!
We also find Bram overcome by a debilitating and lethal disease and Shayla Black reveals a dark side to Bram that was disturbing. Lucan is trying to recover from his severed bond with Anka but she keeps reappearing and tempting him. I was also tantalized by glimpses of Shock, the supposed enemy. He plays some key roles that made me wonder which side he really was on. And questions about the real powers of the Doomsday Diary and the murder/terrorizing of Council members are investigated. It is just too much tension. I can’t wait until the next book! A whole year?! Please make it sooner!
Full of magic, intrigue and sexual tension this was an exhilarating read from start to finish!

Spinning Forward by Terri Dulong
Contemporary Romance- October 27th, 2009
4 ½ stars
Spinning Forward is about new beginnings. Syd Webster moves to a small island after her husband dies. Things work out just when you don't expect them to sometimes. And this is the case with Syd. Somehow finds herself: opening a yarn shop, getting to know her biological mother with the little times she has left, and meeting a wonderful man. These were all things that Syd never expected, especially since she has a 26-year old daughter and had initially planned to just take life one day at a time. However, Syd is learning to meet with both triumph and disaster and all that comes with leading a very busy life in a small town.
This was a magical and intensely gripping novel. I especially liked reading about Syd’s relationship with her mother even though the story becomes so emotional. Get those tissues ready! I found Spinning Forward to be more of a life story, with bits of romance sprinkled into the rich story telling. Terri Dulong’s writing style reminded me of works by Debbie Macomber and Catherine Coulter and is sure to please fans of contemporary romance who love a lot of heart in their stories.

More Than Blood by Amanda Vyne
Paranormal Romance- October 2009
4 ½ stars
More than Blood is a compelling story that I did not want to end. Amanda Vyne has created a world that is imaginative, alluring and explosive.
Gabrial Ferrar is a vampire or Sanguen and a Marshal for his House. As a full blood and the son of the Ferrar House leader his pedigree is highly important for a people who live by rules and tradition. In his current role as an enforcer he protects and keep his people from causing problems they rather not have the rest of world be aware of. On an unauthorized stake out in S.F. Gabe finds his partner possibly involved in an illegal blood trade. While he is watching the exchange he is mesmerized by the sudden appearance of a mysterious woman who fires his blood. He follows her and realizes that this is his destined mate. But she is not a pure Sanguen. Instead she is also part Guardian, a crossbreed and one that will not be accepted by his House.
Kel has worked hard to overcome her tortured past. Now as valued member of the respected company Incog she has finally found some peace. Unfortunately, her latest mission involving a drug dealer makes her cross paths with a dangerous Sanguen named Gabe. And Gabe claims she is his woman. But Kel wants nothing to do with anyone associated with the House that caused her so much pain.
The bonding between Kel and Gabe was incredible. I could feel the passion and hunger each had for the other. Gabe is the traditionalist but even knowing Kel is a crossbreed and forbidden to his pure blood lines his forsakes all to mate with her. And nothing will stand in his way of claiming and protecting her! Kel doesn’t want anything to do with Gabe. He is from the House that cast her out and began her nightmarish childhood. Trusting is not easy for her and especially not with an arrogant male who tells her that she is his. If she could only stop the intense attraction she feels for him!
I loved this story because both character were very strong. Each was an individual and neither was taken over by the other’s intense personality but rather added they added to each other.
If you love sexy vampire romances with a sharp bite this book will satisfy all your craving!

Deep Kiss of Winter by Kresley Cole
Paranormal Romance-Oct 13th, 2009
5 stars
Deep Kiss of Winter is a fabulous read that you will not want to miss! In anthologies I often feel the stories are too short, lack complexity and I generally feel a vague sense of dissatisfaction. But this is not the case with this book. Both stories were well worth the price of the HC book! This anthology includes the long anticipated finish to the last Vampire Wroth brother and continues the thrilling Alien Huntress series by Gena Showalter. If you love either of these series, you will not be disappointed.
In Kresley Cole’s Untouchable, we are introduced to the last Wroth brother. Murdoch Wroth was a deadly soldier like his brothers but history only remembers him as the ‘Casanova’ of the family. Seduce them, bed them, and then leave them. Murdoch wanted no commitments and his conquests as a legendary lothario were envied. But his skills were no longer of use when he became a vampire. As a vampire his body is dead to every woman except his bride. However, Murdoch doesn’t want to find his bride like other vampires. He believes being tied to one woman, would make him weak like his father. Murdoch remembers how his strong father declined when his mother died. Murdoch long ago decided he will never let another person affect him in the same way. But fate is not always kind, while walking in the streets of New Orleans he is captured by the glimpse of a rare beauty one that he feels compelled to pursue. Although she tries to run from him he knows he must discover her identity. And when he hears his heart start to beat signaling he has found his bride, he freezes.
Daniela is known as the Ice Queen. She is a Valkrie warrior but also half Icere. As her mother’s heir she is the rightful ruler of the Icere, descended from a long line of Icere queens. But when her mother was murdered and her crown stolen Daniela is a fugitive among the Icere. As an Icere, she is sensitive to warm temperatures. She must keep cold at all times and the touch of any except those of her own race pains her. As an outcast her hopes of finding a mate are virtually nonexistent. Daniela has hidden in New Orleans with her Valkrie sisters for she believes she is safe from the Icere assassins in this warm climate. Unfortunately, the Icere have found her in New Orleans and are set on terminating her and any hope of her regaining the throne. As she tries to escape them an annoyingly handsome vampire insists on following her at the same time. How will she loose them with him on her trail? And why can’t she loose him? Normally she would love the male attention even is she can’t physically enjoy a man but if she doesn’t loose him her death is a guarantee.
The romance between Daniela and Murdoch moved me to tears. I loved Daniela’s quiet bravery as she risks her well being to be with Murdoch. Murdoch is a stubborn male and although he desires Daniela a part of him can’t let go of NOT wanting to be bonded. And although he doesn’t want anyone around Daniela except himself he still feels trapped by strange emotions that he has never felt before. It was also fun to see how Murdoch’s famous charms fled him when he was around Daniela. And it tugged at my heart strings as I read Daniela’s reaction to Murdoch as he tries to fight their bond. Their inability to physically touch and the demons both face are made more difficult as the Icere become a real threat. I really wanted the 2 to be together but could not figure out how the impossible could become possible. This story was moving, exciting and unexpected. The conclusion was one that I found extremely satisfying. I only mourn the fact that the last of the Wroth brothers are now hitched!
In Gena Showalter’s Tempt Me Eternally, she returns to her Alien Huntress series. As always, Gena Showalter writes an exciting storyline with wonderful characters. This story is much racier than Kresley Cole’s and every bit as intense! I loved the sizzling interaction between the main characters.
Breean is a Rakan, a race that is incredibly beautiful as it is peaceful. Thst is until their planet was decimated by the Schon Queen. The Schon Queen spread a deadly virus on their world and killed most of their population. Breean and his men are now the last of their untainted race and they have decided to find a new world to live in peace. Unfortunately, when they arrive through a portal to earth they are ambushed by the AIR.
Macy has a secret, she can shift and change her identity but she cannot control it under extreme emotions. In her latest identity she finds herself the newest member of the AIR team, an elite enforcement group devoted to protecting the earth from aliens. On her 1st operation she and the rest of her team ready to surprise the invading Schon from causing mass destruction to earth. Only they are instead surprised by a group of Rakan. As her entire team scrambles to trap the Raken they are overwhelmed and only Macy is left standing. As her entire team is imprisoned Macy must fight against the desire she feels for the leader named Breean who wants to claim for himself and form a plan to escape and free her teammates.
Wowzers! If Breean is the typical example of the Rakan race, I really hope Gena Showalter writes more stories which include them. Breean was irresistible and frankly it was a testament to Macy’s strength of will that she was strong enough to resist his charms as long as she did. Breean’s determination to claim Macy and find his men a place to call home was admirable. And Macy’s courage and vulnerability were engrossing. I was enthralled by her mixed emotions as she began to fall for Breean but refused to give up on saving her the rest of her team. The 2 strong willed characters were a well matched pair and the sparkling interaction between them made this story exceptionally enjoyable.
This dynamic duo has written an anthology that their fans MUST have. I slipped right back into each of their worlds and wished neither had to end. This book is sure to be a well-loved keeper.

"Heartwarming and touching holiday story"
This is my favorite time of year! I always look forward to getting into the holiday spirit with a really good book. The Christmas Clock was perfect! It was a delightful read that kicked off the season and filled me with joy and good cheer.
In the "The Christmas Clock" Kat Martin creates a strong and powerful story which focuses around a little boy Teddy Winters. It begins in present day with the boy grown as a young man who reflects on the events based off of this special Christmas story. That Christmas Teddy was determined to buy his dear grandmother a beautiful antique clock. This endearing novel describes how Teddy does his best to attain his goal and purchase this precious gift. Within this boy's life are various people in his community that come to forever change his world. The clock serves as the centerpiece for Teddy's actions and the people who enter his life. And results in a series of events and situations which will arise within the months before Christmas. There are elements of true love and romance which strengthen and survive that I found very touching.
A heartwarming and poignant holiday story that you must read! This is truly a timeless Christmas story that is destined to uplift your spirits and become a classic.

Lucinda, Dangerously by Sunny
Paranormal Romance- October 6th, 2009
5 stars
I have been waiting impatiently for Sunny’s latest book. And Lucinda, Dangerously was everything I thought it would be and plenty MORE!! Sunny has written a story that her fans will be sure to devour. It is both dark and refreshing. A flight of the imagination that captured my attention and kept me spellbound long after I finished the last page. This story builds enormously upon her fist book Lucinda Darkly. And although I think a new reader could read her latest book, I really believe to appreciate the depth of Lucinda Dangerously the first book in the series should be read first. (If not ALL of her books!?)
In this book Lucinda, the vindicated demon princess undergoes some disturbing changes that make her more vunerable/human, something she has not felt for over 600 hundred years when her life as Monere queen was cut short. Now she lives as the demon dead. She has no heart beat and while she is sentient she is not technically alive. In the prior book Lucinda discovered her true paternity and that she can shift into a powerful dragon. But as a rare dragon shifter her life is in danger. Therefore, her father the High Lord of Hell has assigned her his personal guard for protection. As she leaves hell she warns the Monere that a rogue demon named Derek has gone broken loose and is intent on mass slaughter. But before she can even settle down with her ‘mismatched extended’ family, she is kidnapped by Derek and taken to a desolate land where nothing heals and her powers are diminished. Escape looks impossible and her death very probable.
This was an electrifying book. Although Sunny’s book/s initial storyline may seem similar to Laurel Hamilton’s style what she does from that point is very original and never ceases to electrify me.
Sunny’s fantastic mix of the sensual (Warning, Lucinda has more than one partner.), dark fantasy and unbelievably delicious storytelling is a delight for the senses. Her stories are filled with unexpected and thrilling surprises which change Lucinda physically and emotionally. The ending was very gratifying as Lucinda’s courageous sacrifice transforms her to an uncertain future but she has her family and loved ones to help her transition.
The story does flip from different characters point of views and although I thought this would be distracting I found that it added to the story line as the reader gets insight to the true feeling of Lucinda’s companions which made me more sympathetic to them and made for a fuller story. (Perhaps there will be a spin off?!) What strikes me as singular about Sunny’s stories is how fascinating her characters are. They are not the usual cookies cutter heroes or heroines. But what attracts me to them are their core of decency and unwavering will power to overcome the unusual obstacles that come their way. Although her gorgeous characters may seem all powerful and even cold, as a reader I felt their compassion and need to help those less fortunate at great risk to themselves.
I think Lucinda Dangerously will blow your mind! I never knew what to expect and I was awed by Sunny’s vivid imagination and masterful storytelling skills. As soon as I read it I had to have a moment of silence to let it soak in, I could not believe how good it was!

Paradise Rules by Beth Kery
Contemporary Romance- Oct. 6th, 2009
4 stars
Paradise Rules demonstrates why Beth Kery is an author to watch out for! In her latest installment, she explores the journey of her heroine’s transformation, one that includes some very erotic scenes that kept me glued to the pages!
Lana Rodriguez has issues. When you are popular and famous people try to take advantage of you and she has had to learn the hard and painful way to protect herself and her own. When her friend Melanie is devastated by a nasty divorce Lara decides to drag her with her to Hawaii for a vacation. Once there they both decide to take surfing lesson with Jason Koa. A beautiful if arrogant playboy that annoys Lana. The tension between the 2 is powerful. But Lana and Jason’s mutual dislike overlays an intense attraction. When Lana decides to boost her friend’s spirits and have a girls night out she decides to call an escort service for her friend and herself. But when she opens her door she is surprised to find Jason ready to service ALL her needs! She is helpless to stop her addiction to his charms but Jason says they can only continue their affair if she agrees to ‘his’ rules.
Jason wants Lara and when he hears that his cousin’s escort service latest contract is to find Lana a man, he decides to volunteer himself! As Jason pushes Lara, a woman who is used to control, he doesn’t realize the powder keg he has opened. Jason is very dominant and protective. Seeing Lana’s true vulnerability breaks something inside him. He wants to be the one she turns to, the one to comfort her. But her painful past prevents her from being impulsive or spontaneous. And when the tabloid releases a scandal concerning their ‘escorted’ relationship they face hard decisions. Is this new relationship something worth holding onto?
Beth Kery excels at hot and sensual scenes. At first I found Lana’s character abrasive and Jason’s arrogance a bit of a turn off. But as the author slowly built the tension and reveals the vulnerability in her characters I could not stop the pull I felt for the 2! Lana’s childhood is scarred and I wondered if she could see through er past of pain. Lana is an intensely private person and she feels comfortable that way. And Jason’s very dominant and forceful appearance in her life makes big changes for her. Lana questions her motto to keep men out of her life, but having Jason around makes her feel sooo good. Should she take a chance with Jason? Taking risk with her emotions is difficult for her. She must confront her demons and let a man be there for her when no man has before.
I really enjoyed the relationship between the 2 characters, especially Lana’s transformation. They were a well matched pair that were wonderful together.

Dragon Moon (The Moon Series, Book 9) by Rebecca York
Paranormal Romance- Oct. 6, 2009
4 ½ stars
This was an outstanding story from start to finish. I could not put it down. Rebecca York is breaking into her stride with the 9th book in her werewolf series. I feel this book can be read alone but would probably be richer and easier from having read her previous books since characters from her previous books reappear.
Kenna is from an alternate universe where magic is common place. Her future appears bright until she is taken to live as a slave by the ruthless and evil Vandar. Vandar is a shape shifting dragon who drinks blood to live. Vandar is ruthless and demands absolute obedience. Although he does not need human blood to survive he thrives on draining his human servants and keeping them in fear and servitude. His power is absolute but now he has discovered a portal to a new world that is lush with riches. And a place where magic is virtually unknown. This vunerable new world is called earth. Vandar has sent men to scout for the details he needs before he attacks and plans to increase his empire but the men have returned useless for his needs. As an alternate Vandar decides to send a beautiful woman and chooses his slave Kenna. Surely with her beauty she will have an easier time seducing men and infiltrating information from the alternate universe he plans to conquer. To ensure her compliance Vandar places strong and painful mind blocks on Kenna to prevent her from escaping and telling earthlings of his mission to conquer earth.
After training to learn about earth Kenna is thrust across the portal and immediately falls into danger when a tree falls on her during a storm. She is befriended by a wolf who mysteriously disappears. Desperate, Kenna tries to use her powers to lift the tree off her but fortunately a human man comes to her aid.
Kenna discovers the mysterious man’s name is Talon. The 2 find a mutual attraction but Talon feels Kenna is holding something back and although he hides a secret about himself (being a werewolf) he knows he can’t trust Kenna unless she reveals the strange ‘gaps’ in her memory. Kenna loves how kindly Talon treats her especially after her brutal life under Vandar’s rule. She tries to break through her conditioning but cannot tell Talon her mission as a spy.
But even as their relationship stand at an impasse the dangerous Vandar is growing impatient and trouble looms for the 2.
This was a fascinating story that flew by quickly. The villain was completely evil. The heroine courageous, beautiful and valiant. And the alpha hero understanding and protective. This story was quite complex and I was amazed by the Rebecca York’s facile storytelling skills. My favorite sections included the relationship between Talon and Kenna. They were clearly meant for each other. However, I found Kenna’s courage the most captivating section of the novel. When she is confronted by an alien world she uses what skills she has to survive and her conscience and courage carry the story. This was a fabulous addition to Rebecca York’s werewolf series and already one of my favorites. If you love werewolf romances this one is a must read. Rebecca York really heightened the stakes in her latest installment and I eagerly await details of her next book. I hope it will include the wounded dragon shifter Raymond!

Simply Wicked by Kate Pearce
Historical Romance- Sept. 29th, 2009
4 stars
Simply Wicked is no typical or tame Regency romance. Kate Pearce has really pushed the envelope in this highly erotic story filled with passion and pain. She continues her Wicked series in this 4th installment that brings back many of her beloved characters. However, I do feel that it can easily be read by itself. This story delves deeply in to the psyche of 2 beautiful but deeply troubled and vulnerable main characters.
In this long anticipated novel, Kate Pearce finally writes Anthony's story. (Anthony is the younger half-brother to Valentin, the hero from her 1st book in the series, Simply Sexual.) Anthony has always felt pressured by his father and when his long lost half-brother, Valentin returns from a life of slavery, Anthony's entire world is further disrupted. He is no longer the heir and when his half-brother's arch nemesis kidnaps and tortures Anthony. Anthony is forever changed. He becomes a man bent on self-destruction and sexual excess. Only now Anthony wonders if his lifestyle may kill him. When Anthony's father and Valentin try to manipulate him Anthony finds hope when he is asked to escort a young widow, Marguerite. But Marguerite proves to be more than a diversion as he finds himself suddenly and unexpectedly attracted to her.
Marguerite loved her first husband Justin and blames herself for the duel that caused his death. She has kept herself hidden away from society and prefers the quiet if lonely existence of her simple house. However her sibling are troubled by her reclusive nature and she finds they have asked Anthony Sokorvsky a young man of town to befriend her and get her to enjoy life with the rest of the ton. At first Marguerite wants nothing to do with young Anthony but she finds behind his bright social face a soul just as lonely and struggling to find himself as she is.
What can I say about this book except WOW! This book is inventive and sexually adventurous. (The hero has several partners and m/m scenes.) The characters are fresh and their journeys of self-exploration are an enthralling read. Marguerite's guilt over her husband's death has kept her frozen in time. She has stopped living. She needs Anthony's fire and passion to awaken her true self. In contrast, Anthony's desires to punish himself for circumstances that he could not control are calmed by Marguerite gentle presence. She makes him wonder if love is something that he could be worthy of. I enjoyed these 2 characters and Kate Pearce has written a novel that is complex and shocking. If you are looking for an original and surprising novel with steaming sensuality then look no further!

Darker Angels by MLN Hanover
Urban Fantasy- Sept 29th, 2009
4 stars
Darker Angels is the 2nd in the MLN Hanover's urban fantasy series. This series starts with tension and has some unexpected twists that are sure to keep the pages turning. I do feel it can be read alone. However, new readers will have a better understanding from having read the first book since it will give them insight into the nuances of the full cast of characters.
Jayne Heller was a typical college student until her mysterious uncle died. Suddenly Jayne finds herself the keeper of a dangerous heredity legacy. One that includes fighting spiritual parasites and wizards. She must quickly adapt to a dark underworld where she is untried and where the rules of the game can mean certain death. Now that she has finally resumed a sense of normalcy in her `new position' she is contacted by a mysterious FBI agent who pleads for help. She asks Jayne and her cast of buddies to save a young girl from possession in New Orleans. As Jayne and her group try to save the girl new doubts about what she has been taught are called into questions as she tries to steer herself between the murky lines of right and wrong. As she fights against betrayal and an unexpected and deadly foe Jayne has all she can handle.
This dark work will delight fans of urban fantasy looking for something new and different. Instead of the usual cast of shifters and vampires MLN Hanover concentrates more on the magical and a seamy world filled with deadly possession, dark magic and consequence. Her novel is not cut and dried and many times I was torn between liking and disliking the characters as fealty shifted and emotions ran high. Jayne continually struggles to decide who are her really her friends and who are her true enemies. For those readers looking for an edgy and dark atmospheric story, they will find a haven in this new series. However, if you are a reader who enjoys lighter books with more clearly defined endings you may feel disappointed. Although this book does have a little romance it is primarily fantasy with plenty of bite and mystery.
In short, this is an original series that will be sure to thrill readers of dark fantasy.

Morning Star Review by Roslyn Hard Holcomb
Contemporary Romance- September 29th, 2009
4 stars
Morning Star is a very well written contemporary romance that reminds me a bit of Sandra Brown's work. It follows the love story between Andi, a successful, driven, sexy studio producer in Los Angeles and Hardy, the sexy male lead. Sparks start flying starting in Chapter One, and don't stop. However, I was pleased to find that there is a lot of back story and intrigue. It was NOT just a hot love story taking place in LA. We find out about Hardy's complicated past studying as a priest and his problems with high risk activities. How did this alter boy become one of Hollywood's bad boys? We also find out about Andi's very different relationship with her mother and find out who her father really is. However, the truth comes with consequences and brings up some issues that Andi and Hardy need to address.
This was a complex and emotional story. It had some very interesting twists that will be sure to keep you reading all night long. I enjoyed the relationship between the 2 main characters and definitely recommend it!

Seduce Me In Shadow (The Doomsday Brethren, Book 2) by Shayla Black
Paranormal Romance- Sept. 29th, 2009
4 ½ stars
Seduce Me In Shadow is the 2nd book in the bold new series of the Doomsday Brethren, but it can be easily read by itself. Let me start by saying this is a fantastic series that you DO NOT want to MISS!! I think the best part of this series is that it also includes several side stories that include an incredible cast that are captivating to read. I can only hope this author plans to continue her series past 3 books!! But although this is a complicated series, Seduce Me in Shadow can actually be read easily by itself. (Although I would highly recommend reading Tempt Me with Darkness first to make the experience more satisfying.)
In Seduce Me In Shadows we meet Caden and Sydney.
Caden has hated magic ever since he was young and in rebellion left to America. But now he’s back in England on a mission to save his brother Lucan. Lucan is part of a powerful and elite group of magical men called the Doomsday Brethren with a mission to save the world. Lucan’s mate is a witch who was kidnapped violently. Without her to stabilize him, Lucan is slowly going insane. Despondent and desperate Caden finally catches a break when he discovers a tabloid that is printing stories exposing the Doomsday Brethren and their magical world to humans. He wonders if the informant is a lead to Lucan’s mate, Anka. Either way Caden knows he must investigate if only to quell the dangerous leak from spreading. To infiltrate the tabloid he poses as a photographer. However he doesn’t count on being attracted to Sydney Blair, the reporter and main lead to Anka. Even as Caden tries to persuade Sydney to tell him her source she befuddles his mind and shatters his already shaky control. Something he doesn’t need as he realizes he is undergoing the traumatic change into a wizard. (The same transformation where all wizards also undergo a frenzied sexual marathon!)
Sydney Blair knows she is onto a powerful story. And the tempting and sexy Caden doesn’t fool her. She knows he is after her source but she isn’t about to jeopardize her informant and compromise her budding career. But magical and mysterious things occur when she is around Caden and soon she finds her fantastic story might be not only be true but that knowing the truth may lead to her death.
Who are the real allies? The plot twists and turns as new and unexpected revelations unfold. Shayla Black is not afraid to go against normal stereotypes in her story line which makes it: grittier, real and very compelling. We see the darker side of our heroes and what their vulnerabilities can make them do. I also enjoyed the clever interplay between all the characters. I especially loved the section where Caden is trying to seduce Sydney without actually seducing her to find her informant. In this scene, Sydney tries to drive Caden crazy and lose his cool control. Go, Sydney!
Shayla Black is an extremely strong writer, while writing secondary characters most authors often loose the intensity and focus of the story. But in this case the secondary characters drove the story enriching it to even higher levels of tension. I really felt the characters had known each other for a long time and had an intricate history that I wanted to unravel. In fact, I found I enjoyed the complex cast of secondary characters even more intriguing than the main ones! I am particularly interested in Bram and his mysterious mate who disappeared and is slowly driving him insane. The incredible love triangle between: Shock , Lucan and Anka. And the unrelieved sexual tension between Saybelle and Ice. I felt deeply attached to her characters even the villains. Shalya Black leaves tantalizing glimpses that kept me in delicious suspense as I eagerly await her next installment!
Shayla Black’s combination of intricate storytelling adds to the drama and tension of this dazzling series. And will make you long for the next book as soon as you finish the prior one. I cannot stress how amazing this book is, so do not miss it!

The Hunt by Anne Marsh
Paranormal Romance- Sept. 29th, 2009
5 stars
The Hunt is a thrilling story that leads the reader in directions that are surprisingly unexpected and absorbing. The cast of characters are intriguing and the imaginative world and culture the author has created are captivating.
Miu is a beautiful thief, her powers with the moon make her an ideal candidate to steal the prized moon necklace from the Cat Temple. This attempt is suicidal but Miu is determined because the price of failure is her sister’s life. But the only way to enter the Cat Temple is to participate as a bride of the Hunt. In the Hunt virgin females are given a dowry and in exchange are hunted by the Cat men as potential mate. Miu decides to pretend she is one of the many brides, it is the perfect way to disguise herself, steal the necklace and escape. She definitely doesn’t want any mate must less one of the fierce Cats.
But Mui’s arrogance makes her stand out among the crowd. The leader of the temple orders Jafar, one of his most trusted Guardians to find out what mischief she is up to. And that is when trouble and passion collide! Jafar has already spotted Mui and although he is intensely attracted to her he doesn’t want any female especially after the last female he picked endangered the temple. Jafar follows Mui but because he doesn’t have the usual Cat men markings she mistakes him for a mercenary. (Jafar is a special Guardian that protects a hidden doorway to a dangerous world.) As the 2 become close Mui realizes Jafar has deceived her and although she has grown to enjoy his company she must finish her quest no matter the cost. But Mui doesn’t count on Jafar’s possessive nature and steely determination. Because he has other ideas and they all involve Mui!
I fell in love with this story and its characters! I loved the gutsy heroine and the very sexy, alpha male. The relationship between the main characters was much hotter than I expected. I really enjoyed how the hero stood by Miu. Miu is a tough character who is confident in herself and extremely focused. I liked her strong personality but as a consequence Miu has never had anyone who she could lean on before. I especially enjoyed the sections where Miu grows to trust and believe in Jafar. And readers, Jafar is irresistible! His protective and ‘animalistic’ side which made me wish I was his mate instead of Mui! Jafar defends Mui but he is no one’s fool. I liked how he recognized Miu’s worth and believed in her even when she was unsure about herself. Miu never had a chance! As she slowly lets Jafar see her vulnerable side, their developing love and respect are a true joy to read. As a side note, Anne Marsh has written equally interesting secondary characters and I would especially like to know more about the darkly tormented Hebon. (Hint!)
The Hunt is: original, imaginative and surprisingly sensual. I am crossing my fingers that this is only the first in the series of Cat Guardian books. (I can’t believe this is her first book!) This is a must read for paranormal fans especially those who love: shifter novels, smokin’ hot heroes and feisty heroines!

Creations by Marie Harte
Erotic Futuristic Romance Sept, 29th, 2009
4 stars
Creations is an erotically charged anthology. Those who love futuristics with a lot of spice will devour these 2 stories. I have long been a fan of Marie Harte. Her writing is clear and imaginative as she guides the reader into a fantastic galaxy filled with fascinating races with amazing powers.
Creation is a new series by Marie Harte and involves the plight of a family of 3. 2 sisters (Erin and Anin) and one brother (Ryen) who have been scientifically and illegally created at the notorious Blue Rim Labs. All have been created from the best of the different races in the galaxy. However they have one flaw, they have been programmed to obey their masters and that includes being sexually submissive. They have undergone grueling and painful tests during their entire brief existence and all of them long for freedom. Now they have escaped and the Blue Rim scientists are frantic to get them back. Huge bounties are on each of their heads. And add to their dilemma if they are caught as illegal ‘Creations’ they are not defined as ‘people’ by the law and therefore to be immediately terminated. Freedom may be short lived.
Erin’s story
Erin is the least submissive of her family and as such she feels it is her mission to destroy the labs at Blue Rim and the secrets they hide. (While her brother Ryen is protecting Anin, the most submissive and vunerable of them.) Then Erin plans to return to her family and live in freedom. Erin kidnaps a notorious criminal with big connections to help her with the weapons she needs to annihilate Blue Rim. But mistaken identity causes her to take the wrong man. Rafe is the worst person Erin could have kidnapped. Not only is he one of the fierce Xema, he is officer of the law and charged with killing illegally created beings, no matter their innocence.
Rafe can’t believe his luck, Erin is the key to his current case and he allows Erin use him. But he doesn’t expect himself to fall in love. How will he protect her from himself and what will happen when she finds out the truth?
Anin’s story
Although Anin was created to obey, she has never experienced pleasure in sex. When her captivity is broken and she is saved by 2 handsome mercenaries, she finds herself wanting something she has never known before.
Nu and Set are sttracted to Anin but knowing her history of sexual abuse Nu in particular does not want to press himself on Anina. Set knows differently, he realizes that Anin is stronger than Nu thinks and he conspires with Anin to seduce Nu so all of them can find the pleasure that he knows they will enjoy.
This anthology kept me enthralled. Both of these 2 stories were short, satisfying reads. But between the 2 stories I definitely prefer Erin's. There is something about Rafe that is so noble and alpha! Anin's story was also enjoyable but shorter and that is probably why I didn't feel as connected to the characters. All the scenes between the main characters were hot, hot, HOT! There were so many interesting characters (sexy men) that I feel this series could be explored further. I hope Marie Harte continues this series and includes more of the Xema warriors!

Contemporary Romance – September 15th, 2009
3 Stars
Flying Free is the story of Lia Bedford. Lia has come to Arizona in order to fulfill
the requirements of her late father’s will of getting her pilot’s license in order for her
sell her father’s home. Afterwards, she intends to go back to her advertising job. While in Arizona, she meets Seth. Seth Hartman has come to build a spiritual center and escape the community and wife who betrayed him.
Despite Lia and Seth’s different reasons for coming to Arizona they are both immediately drawn to each other. Along with their immediate attraction to one another they are also helped by a group of wacky senior citizen matchmakers. Lia and Seth are able to overcome their fears and might just find true love together.
Amber Polo does an excellent job of mixing a sweet quirky romance along with a fun and unique cast of characters who liven up the story. The characters of Lia and Seth are both intriguing and different from the usual type of characters in a romantic story. The only complaint I had with the characters was that they were not as developed as I had hoped and could use a bit more ‘livening up’.
If you’re looking for a nice, sweet story that is simple and unusual this is the story for you! It is chopped full of intriguing and light-hearted characters that added to the story enriched my enjoyment of the overall book.

Dark Elves 6 Awakening by Jet Mykles
Erotic Paranormal-Sept. 15th, 2009
4 ½ stars
The Dark Elves are a seductive and sensuous race. They have been blessed by the Goddess Rhae. Who has bestowed upon them long life and the ability to seduce. (The Dark Elves secrete oil on their skin that is an aphrodisiac and makes them irresistible to anyone who touches them.) Unfortunately, their population has declined and the Goddess Rhae has suddenly forsaken them.
Eryhaen is rare rhaejena (sorcerer) princess, one desired by all the male Dark Elves. But with her great magical powers comes the real fear she cannot control them. Young and impetious, her instincts tell her that only the powerful sorcerer Radin can help her control her overwhelming magical abilities. However he has been in a frozen state of unconsciousness for years. Eryhaen is fascinated by his sensual beauty and knows he can help her if only she can wake him. She also feels he is the mysterious key to bringing her race back from the brink of extinction. Eryhaen decides to ignore the rules and break through the enchanted spell that surrounds Radin even if her actions alienates her from the men she loves.
Jet Mykles world building skills astound me. I quickly immersed myself into this fascinating tale and grew to love the characters. I really hope this is not the last installment of her series! The Dark Elves are highly sexual beings who are unashamed of their needs. Eryhae is no exception and is a nice change to meet a female who revels in her sensuality. She is a very empowered and sexually dominant female.
This story reminded me of sleeping beauty except Eryhaen is the ‘prince’ who wakes the sleeping beauty, the seductive sorcerer Radin. I enjoyed how Eryhaen takes charge and manages to wake Radin. (HOT scene!) Again, she is a very proactive and strong heroine. However, because she is a rhaejena princess she has been spoiled all her life and although she is successful in her mission to release Radin she does not realize the changes his awakening will incur on her own lifestyle. Because she has finally met a man who has the ability to control her!
This was a fascinating story, although Jet Mykes is known for her hot, hot scenes even if they were completely removed, the story would still drives this book! There are big and unexpected changes in Radin. And the consequences of Eryhaen’s actions that she and the rest of Dark Elves had not anticipated make for an exciting read. Eryhaen really grows from the rather self absorbed and thoughtless young woman in the beginning of the book into a woman of real courage and depth. But this story is much more than just Eryhaen’s story. Characters from previous books are also brought into the storyline ending in a very satisfying conclusion that will be sure to surprise and delight!

The Guardian is the second book in Claire Delacroix’s futuristic paranormal fallen angel’s trilogy.
Clair Delacroix’s fallen angel’s trilogy starts with the first book The Fallen which should be read first in order to truly understand the series and enjoy the story with its many interesting and unusual characters.
The Guardian tells the story of Rafe a fallen angel who is sent on a mission to save Delilah Desjardins a seer who has the gift of foresight. Rafe must ensure that Delilah survives long enough to reach her true calling to become the Oracle for the Republic but to do so Rafe is forced to kidnap Delilah in order to keep her safe. While on the run from those who would keep Delilah from her true destiny Rafe and Delilah are strongly drawn to each other and despite Delilah’s attraction to Rafe her fear of the attracting and how It will affect her gift as well as her fear for Rafe’s safety cause her to flee from his protection causing Rafe to race after her in order to not only save her for the Republic but also for himself and his own heart.
Claire Delacroix does an excellent job of weaving a new futuristic world for us that is very different from what we know and has all sorts of interesting and fascinating aspects to it. The Guardian’s characters of Rafe and Delilah are both very intriguing as well as being compelling and it does make you want to know what their futures will hold. The only difficulty I had was that the storyline was so complex that (I had not read the first book.) I had trouble orienting myself and think this really took away from the pleasure of reading this book.
If you like paranormal romance as well as futuristic stories this is the book for you.

The Beautiful Being by Jessica Barksdale Inclan
Paranormal Romance – Sept. 29th, 2009
4 stars
The Beautiful Being is the satisfying conclusion to Jessica Inclan’s Being series. In this book the author finishes the absorbing story of the Mirav family with Edan’s story. I have really anticipated Edan’s book because his character is so appealing and I wondered how the author would resolve his past.
Edan is a tragic and heroic figure. The leader of a people hunted for their special abilities, he carries a terrible burden. Edan’s people all have talents and if they are lucky they find their twin or double with the opposite talent that complements and completes them. However, Edan is cursed with a talent that ages him and if he isn’t careful it might kill him. He has already prematurely aged himself. Unable to find his perfect match, Edan feels he is destined to die alone.
Ava wishes for the impossible, her double or twin. But time has past and no man pulls to her, nor has she heard of a man with powers that complement her own. She is tortured by dreams of a man who always leaves and always wakes up feeling dissatisfied and unwanted. Although she actively helps in her peoples rebuilding efforts, she feels her actions are empty and meaningless.
I really enjoyed the characters in this story; they were: vulnerable, likable and very easy to relate to. I find the idea of twins that complement each other extremely fascinating. (Wish there was more of this series slated to be published! I feel there are so many different twins with different talents that could be explored.) Jessica Inclan excels at delving into the inner psyche of her creations and bringing them to life. However, areas not related to the relationship between the characters I found somewhat confusing. I still have a feeling of not quite understanding the enemy and the Source which seemed like a spiritual place. However, the general feeling I believe the author wanted to portray, a journey toward peace, forgiveness, and completion was conveyed. As a result, I did find the conclusion of this book filled me with great satisfaction and happiness for the couple.

Can’t Stand The Heat By Louisa Edwards
Contemporary Romance – September 1st, 2009

Can’t Stand The Heat is the first book in the Recipe for Love series by Louisa Edwards. Her Recipe for Love series centers on the lives of the cooking staff at a NYC Restaurant.
Miranda Wake is a tough food critic who gets the opportunity to spend a month alongside head chef Adam Temple in the kitchen of his hot new NYC restaurant. She hopes to write an expose about what really goes on behind the scenes but finds a lot more is cookin’ besides food!
Miranda and Adam are characters that you will find endearing and you will easily become invested in their lives. They are both interesting characters and have great appeal as a couple, especially in the beginning where their initial animosity develops into a great bit of chemistry! The only quibble I had was that I found some of Miranda’s choices rash and difficult to believe.
But along with Miranda and Adam there is a whole kitchen full of fascinating characters that you want to learn more about and made me glad that there will be more books in the Recipe For Love series.
This book is a great mix of contemporary romance mixed with the love of cooking. As someone who loves both cooking and romance I am very pleased to find an author who does an excellent job of mixing the two together. If you love a good romantic story with a fun twist this is a book you will find hard to put down before reaching the very end.

Sea Glass by Maria Snyder
Fantasy- Sept 1st, 2009
5 stars
Sea Glass is another magical triumph by the amazing talented Maria Snyder. Her books have the ability to transport me into a world that seems both magical and familiar. Her finely crafted novels pull me into her story and I feel as if I am one of her characters! In Sea Glass, Maria Snyder begins the 2nd installment of her Glass series involving the student magician Opal. What I found so exciting about this story was how the author seamlessly builds tension and thrilled me as the stakes in Opal’s life change dramatically.
Opal is a magical apprentice who has already gained fame when she helped save her country of Sitia. But as a result she has discovered deadly powers including one that allows her to drain the magic from another magician. Now she is being commanded by the Council to return under their custody. Opal is willing to turn herself in because she understands that people are afraid of her powers but she also realizes that once she does her skills may manipulated or used against her. Either way she knows the Council plans to keep close tabs on her and any independence will be cut severely short. To trouble her further, she has discovered that her friend Ulrick was tricked/forced to swap bodies with an evil blood magician, named Devlen Devlen tortured and manipulated Opal and she fears the destruction he will cause in his current disguise as Ulrick. Unfortunately, no one believes her claims. To prove the truth, Opal is determined to find and rescue Ulrick and prove to the Council and her friends that the impossible is possible before disaster strikes.
I highly recommend this extraordinary fantasy. The boundless exuberance of characters like Leif and Janco and the suspenseful storyline will keep you at the edge of your seat! Opal and Janco’s adventures as they try to find the real Ulrick, were well worth the price of the book. I love Maria Snyder’s endearing characters, their bonding and lighthearted banter made this story a fun filled quest. But Maria Snyder also brings a darker more sinister side to her story that brims with incredible tension.
Opal’s admirable force of will and core of decency as she combats seemingly insurmountable obstacles are truly enthralling to read. As Opal tries to prove the truth of Ulrick’s true identity she is tested by difficult circumstances. She no longer knows who are her real allies and friends. This adversity transforms Opal into a newer, tougher and more cynical heroine who still manages to keep a good heart. I was captivated by the difficult struggles and sacrifices she had to make to find the truth. And Opal gets much more than she bargained.
This story does resolve the mystery behind Devlen and Ulrick but ends with surprises and changes for Opal that can only lead to a more turbulent and exciting 3rd book. Even though Opal faces an uncertain future, I was happy Opal had friends and family to support her.
This was a fabulous book from start to finish. An indomitable heroine and endearing characters combined with a spellbinding plot make this book a treasure! I can’t wait to find out what happens next!

Seduced by a Stranger by Eve Silver
Historical Romance-Gothic- Sept 1st, 2009
4 stars
Eve Silver has written has out done herself with her latest gothic Seduced by a Stranger. This story kept me guessing until almost the very end! Seduced by a Stranger is without a doubt, her most terrifying and thrilling gothic to date. I was intensely drawn to the shadowy, tortured hero and the courageous heroine. This novel is guaranteed to scare and shock you with deliciously twisted turns and a diabolical murderer!
Catherine’s invitation to visit with an old school mate, Madeline seems like a Godsend. However, when she reaches Cairncroft Abbey she is dismayed by the lack of hospitality and warnings of doom should she stay. But Cathereine will not desert her friend. Poor Madeline is emaciated and confused. Her cousin, Sir Gabriel St. Aubyn is dark and forbidding. Although Catherine eventually comes to fear for herself and her friend, she has no where else to go. Unfortunately, complications from her past leave Catherine with few choices. She resolves to make the best of her situation and console Madeline. To add to her troubles, Catherine soon finds herself irresistibly drawn to the enigmatic and handsome Sir Gabriel even as she suspects he may be linked to a series of grisly murders.
This gothic was much darker and twisted that I had expected. Eve Silver also does an excellent job of creating characters with depth. Each has a past they would rather not reveal and I found their secret pasts added tremendously to the characters and the story line. As I discovered more about them I became caught in the stories of these 2 strong personalities, eager to discover the truth behind their suffering. The character development in Eve Silver’s hero and heroine are fully fleshed and extremely interesting. Gabriel is particularly fascinating and mysterious. I was impressed with Catherine’s determination and willingness to risk all for love. In addition, the villain in this novel was deliciously evil and diabolical. One of the cruelest I’ve read in a long time. Although I was fascinated by the mystery in the story the villain both fascinated and repelled me. At the suspenseful and tumultuous end, I was shocked by the murderer’s motives and vindictiveness.
This was a rare read. Gothic romance at its very best!

Drawn Into Darkness: A Soul Gatherer Novel by Annette McCleave
Paranormal Romance – Sept. 1st, 2009
3 1/2 stars
Annette McCleave has brought to life a unique and fascinating world in her debuting book Drawn Into Darkness. I was quickly absorbed by her imaginative novel where angels and demons fight for control and power over the dead.
Lachlan MacGregor is caught in the middle. He is a soul gatherer responsible for battling demons and preventing them from stealing the souls of the dead. Atoning for his past for 4 centuries, his newest assignment has him mystified. He has been ordered to travel across the world to America, where he is given little aid in his mission to protect a special girl named Emily. The only problem is he has been instructed to stay close to her family. And that means befriending Emily’s single and gorgeous mother Rachel. Posing as a priest Lachlan tries to keep his intense attraction to Rachel on a tight leash because he knows any relationship is futile. Rachel deserves happiness and any life with him would be doomed from the start. But attempts on Emily’s life bring the couple closer and desire that should remain hidden ignites…
Annette McCleave has definitely created a world worth exploring. The group of Soul Gatherers who seek atonement for their past reminded me of Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark Hunter series. I found nearly all of the characters intriguing and enjoyed the sections between the 2 main characters. The only part of the story which I had difficulty enjoying were the areas that involved Emily. Emily was not endearing. Although she is a teenager and expected to be rebellious and bratty, I found her reckless and spiteful behavior kept me from liking her. Unfortunately, she did not show any remorse at the difficulties she gave her mother or Lachlan. Even though keeping Emily safe was the focus of the story, I just didn’t think she was worth the trouble. Because of Emily’s unsympathetic character, I could not rate this story higher although I found all the rest of characters extremely fascinating.
This being said, if you love paranormal romance and are looking for new characters and a fresh world that will intrigue you, Drawn Into Darkness will attract you. This new series is definitely one to watch out for!

Time for Eternity by Susan Squires
Vampire Paranormal Romance- Sept. 1st, 2009
4 ½ stars.
This book combines 2 of my favorite genres vampire and time travel. Susan Squires guides the reader through a complex story that is sure to capture the imagination.
Frankie is vampire hardened and alone. Cruelly abandoned after being turned a vampire, she had to learn to tame her blood thirst the hard way and she has never forgiven her maker the Duke, Henri Foucault. If she could find him she would kill the selfish bastard herself! By lucky circumstance she is given the chance to travel back in time and Frankie is determined to find her maker, Henri and kill him before he turns her into a vampire and avert her suffering. Frankie arrives in France during the French revolution but in the wrong place! As she desperately travels to find the Duke she sees herself just before her past self meets him and discovers why you shouldn’t meet yourself in time. Once she sees herself, her essence is absorbed into her innocent and naïve past persona. This wouldn’t be a problem except her younger self is mesmerized by the Duke and will not listen to the pleas and warnings her future self tries to warn her of.
This was an exciting book as I tried to figure out how this story could be resolved. I enjoyed the heroine’s journey. It was intriguing as Frankie discovers new depths to the Duke and we find the true reasons behind his actions. The heroine was extremely likeable and gutsy and I enjoyed how the author delicately balanced the time travel within the storyline. The future Frankie changed the past Frankie developing her into a stronger and more intriguing woman. One who transformed history for the better. Henri is: handsome, bold, and noble. He is also very lonely and needed Frankie’s light and belief in him to feel human after so many years alone. I particularly loved how the story reveals a different side of Henri and how he changes and grows even as Frankie does. Unlike some stories where I feel the time travel aspect is thrown in, this story needed the time travel for the true potential of both main characters to be realized. Rarely do you read such a large alteration in one character, much less 2. And for my part, this was the best part of the story. This is a novel that will certainly keep you intrigued and wanting to finish it that day to find out how it will end.

Royal’s Bride by Kat Martin
Historical Romance- August 25th, 2009
4 stars
This book light regency is one that Kat Martin readers will be sure to enjoy.
Royal is the suffering hero who loves another, Lily the ultimate good girl and Jocelyn the spoiled, selfish heiress that you just want to punch. Then there is the usual cast: the guy’s best friends who would do anything for the hero, the old crazy aunt who is the Fairy Godmother, the aforementioned slimy bad guy, and the girl’s only last remaining relative who loves the heroine like a father despite his shady past.
Royal Dewar is a penniless duke who must marry the rich heiress, Joselyn Caufield, in order to rebuild his estate. His father, the old duke, makes Royal swear on his deathbed that Royal will marry Joselyn. Unfortunately, Royal has fallenl in love with Joselyn’s poor cousin Lily Moran!
There’s plenty of side twists in the novel involving the villainous con artist who scammed the old duke and cause the Dewar family’s current financial dilemma and include how Lily and Royal must team up to get the money back.
Royal’s Bride is light-hearted and optimistic. If you don’t feel like reading about human fallacies, this is the book to read. No matter how dubious a character is, he/she will invariably be coated with a layer of sugar – except for the main evil guy of course. It is not a bad read, it’s just predictable. Personally, I like a book that is a bit darker, edgier - a novel where the author makes no apologies for creating unsavory characters. Strangely, I found the best character in Royal’s Bride is the spoiled heiress: she’s has a lot of spunk!
Royal’s Bride is good escape, a comfortable read that readers of light regency will enjoy.

The Strangely Beautiful Tale of Miss Percy Parker by Leanna Renee Hieber
Historical Paranormal Romance -Aug 25, 2009
3 stars
This book started out with an enchanting fairytale like quality that quickly attracted me. A rag tag group of youngsters are drawn together and given powers to create a new Guard to protect the city of London. They are visited by a ‘Goddess’ who portends a great prophecy yet to be revealed. But they must wait for their last and final member to join them before their true destiny can be fulfilled. As they seek their last member the mystified crew search fruitlessly for 21 years.
But their hunt is finally coming to a close as a young, naïve orphan named Miss Percy arrives at their school with strange powers. However, they are also fascinated by a mysterious, beautiful woman named Miss Linden. Miss Linden is self-confident and seems to hold the key to their fate. But, which one is the true and real member of their Guard?
Miss Percy is clearly the star of this book and she shines. I really enjoyed the heroine’s character but did not find the other characters in the story up to her level. She is treated poorly by the Guard. Petty jealously by one member and a lack of strong moral character in the hero were difficult to reconcile. Her hero betrays her trust even as he cozens up with another woman. He makes this decision because he is pressured by his friends to leave Percy. In general, I always feel the hero should recognize the heroine immediately or at least once he realizes his affection for her be determined to keep her despite all costs. For a supposedly brilliant professor he is easily manipulated.
While the beginning of this book is mysterious and intriguing it unfolds very slowly and sometimes frustratingly so. I enjoyed the writing which had a poetic style that was both dreamy and lyrical. Unfortunately, the beautiful imagery could not make up for the under developed characters and the sadly weak hero. This book and its prospective series have great potential but I feel more development of the characters besides Percy must be taken to fully engage the readers. I understand that the author plans to write a following book and would greatly like to learn more. Only sections of the mystery and origins of the Guard are mentioned as I impatiently waited to find where the book would lead and what the Guard actually did. This resulted in a story I found elusive and maddening. Overall, I felt a vague sense of disappointment with the feeling that the story was unresolved. I feel much more could be told in this story and will have to wait for I hope another book to reveal the secrets behind the Guard.

Longfellow Seduced is one HOT book but I found it rather short on actual plot.
Magnus and Silas are vampires. They are centuries old Scottish men who have finally built a life where they are happy. Magnus is a famous rock star and Silas the manager of the club they both own. But trouble at the club forces them to call for outside help.
Prudence Long fellow is a CPA, and part of the powerful female Longfellow clan. She has come to investigate Magnus and Silas’s club and find out the mystery behind their missing funds. There she meets Magnus a wild Scottish vampire who intrigues her with his reckless beauty. His rude behavior repels her even as his dominating kisses mesmerize her.
Magnus can’t believe he is attracted to the mousy CPA, he loves all women but never one in particular. But Magnus can’t seem to keep his hands to himself. As Prudence’s investigation grow deeper, secrets from Silas and Magus’s past come to light as one woman’s need for power and control threaten to destroy their lives.
This was a light read with some very steamy scenes. Magnus is a very sensual and skilled lover and the scenes with him and Pru are smoking! But I found myself drawn toward the silent and brooding Silas more. (Would love to see the woman who tames him!) Silas seems more responsible, mysterious and intriguing. While Magnus was the typical handsome player who beds any woman. Magnus careless attitude bothered me. He didn’t seem to have any discrimination until Pru caught his eye and kept his attention. I tried but could not feel as connected with either of the 2 main characters as much as I would have hoped. The actual relationship between the 2 seemed somewhat forced and rushed. Besides this fact, I thought this story was a good, short read.

Highland Obsession is wonderful, sensual read that had me hooked from the very first page. The main characters are attractive and sympathetic. I especially loved the main hero! He is one of the noblest heroes I have read in a while. He fired my imagination and my heart rate!
Sorcha is a lovely highland lass who is caught between duty and her wild heart. Her marriage has been arranged by her father to laird Alan Mac Donald. She pledges to honor her father and do her duty. However, she secretly had a fling with Cam, the dashing and philandering Earl of Camdonn. But she is determined to put her impetuous past firmly behind her. Sorcha intends to hide her indiscretion from her new husband and only give him her loyalty and fidelity.
But Sorcha is unaware that the earl cannot forget her sweet charms. After her wedding, Cam realizes too late Sorcha's importance in his life. He is tormented and vows to have her back. So he watches and waits. After spying a very heated interlude with her gentle and noble husband he violently crashes their door and kidnaps a very naked Sorcha. Cam takes her to his to his castle where he plans to claim her as his own. But to Cam’s frustration he soon realizes that Sorcha will not forsake her vows of fidelity, even as he tries mightily to ply her with his numerous sensual skills!
Meanwhile, her new husband is enraged; he thought Cam was his best friend. Alan feels betrayed and angered by Cam’s reckless actions. Alan intends to hunt his bride, rescue her and seek revenge on his former friend. However, Alan soon hears hints of Sorcha’s indiscretion, giving him pause as he considers her deceit. Alan had demanded and expected a virgin bride. Determined to get her back as honor demands he no longer knows how he feels for his new bride.
But Sorcha takes matters into her own hands and escapes Cam only to find a distant and cold husband confronting her with the truth…
This was thrilling book from start to finish, what woman wouldn’t want 2 sexy highlander men after her?! As Sorcha is caught between the 2 men and their complicated friendship, competition between the 2 drives the stakes higher. The scenes where each man seduces or tries to seduce Sorcha were scorching! Both these men were fantastic alphas that I enjoyed reading. I found Cam charming and seductive and Alan positively sinful! Who will she choose? You will have to read it to find out! I also liked how the author brought up the old double standard. Men can have other women and are praised but Sorcha’s indiscretion is vilified and she is expected to be penitent. Will her husband forgive her? Why does she have to be forgiven?
This was an extremely enjoyable read that was very erotic (WARNING: ménage scene!) and sensual. This story was a sheer delight and dazzled all my senses. Dawn Halliday is an extraordinary author to watch out for. She has definitely found a new fan!

The Path of Razors is an engrossing Urban Fantasy from the extremely creative mind of Chris Marie Green. Her books are a real treat that are not to be missed! For those who have not read her works, this is the 5th in her Vampire Babylon series. The first three are a trilogy within the series that has a storyline which is resolved by the third book. Because the Path of Razors is the second book in the ‘second trilogy’ (starring the same characters as the first), I would suggest at least reading the 4th book, A Drop of Red before reading this one to orient yourself properly. (Or if you would like the full enjoyment reading the first 4 stories to appreciate the growth in the characters!)
As explained The Path of Razors is the second book in the second trilogy of Chris Marie Green’s series and as such it leaves the reader with many answers but also many surprises. All of which I hope will be resolved in her 6th book!
The Path of Razors is actually composed of 2 storylines. The first deals with: evil vampires, the Queenshill School and the mysterious Underground. The second storyline concerns the heroes who are bent on finding them and exterminating their nest.
In the heroes’ story, the heroine Dawn, the mysterious Costin and the rest of the team are investigating an inhuman school for girls and trying to find its link to a secret Underground lair of vampires. Unfortunately there is conflict within the team as the leader Costin fights against the body he occupies for control and the vampire abilities he was forcefully given to save his life. He finds himself now the enemy he has sworn to vanquish. Adding to the tension is the love triangle between Dawn’s father, mother and a murdered ghost!
The villains’ storyline is equally if not more compelling as secrets behind: Mrs. Jones, Wolfie and the Queenshill dorm are revealed. Small references to the secret vampire underground also kept me on edge as I tried to figure out where the story might be leading.
What I find most unusual about Christ Marie Green’s books is that she develops the villains equally if not better than the heroes. I often find myself preferring them to the ‘heroes.’ The author has the rare ability to make the villains: relatable, vulnerable and vastly appealing. I found the sections with the school girls exciting and was drawn to their sheltered lives as they tried to discover the secret behind Wolfie and Mrs. Jones. Mrs. Jones’s story is revealed and it was a fantastic surprise which was well worth the price of the book!
I feel I have invested time in these characters and grown to know them. Chris Marie Green really knows how to develop her characters and create tension. I am eager to discover how or if their situations with be resolved in the next book. The school girl Della in particular is an absorbing character which I would love to see in more books past the next?! I am also curious to find out more about the mysterious Whisperer and dragon.
This is a fantastic series not to be missed. But WARNING, once you start you will become addicted!

Swept Off Her Feet by Camille Anthony
Erotic Paranormal- July 21st, 2009
4 stars
Swept Off Her Feet is a daring and sexy read! If you enjoy steamy romances and the paranormal this story will be sure to delight your senses.
Glendevtoras is weary after a long civil war. He finally has defeated the enemy. Now he can settle down and find a mate. But he is horrified to discover the enemy has created a diabolical revenge. They have released a poison that will attach to their DNA making their woman and eventually men sterile. Glendevtoras is devastated. But when his father informs him of one slim change to bring his race back from extinction he finds hope. Many years ago, rebels were exiled from his planet. Glendevtoras is determined to find them and his only chance for a mate.
Glennora (Nnora) has always known she was different. At 7 feet tall, she towers over most men and woman. When she discovers she is the long lost princess of a different race she is relieved, but disappointed to discover that due to inter-fighting the men of her age range are all dead. This is a huge problem since she has reached pava. (A state of constant arousal without a man to relieve her.) While fighting against her arousal in her bathroom she is startled when confronted by a huge warrior who claims she is his mate. Although Nnora finds him very attractive, she refuses to be taken anywhere much less told she HAS to marry him!
Glendevtoras’s sensual onslaught as he goes after Nnora is definitely erotic and imaginative. He knows what he wants and Nnora doesn’t stand a chance. I liked how he made Nnora feel attractive after her height and human ex-husband had made her feel insecure. This story doesn’t have a lot of plot but it doesn’t need it. Most of the story focuses on the building relationship between the 2 characters and Glendevtoras determination to make Nnora his through pleasure. This was a very enjoyable book and I would be very interested to learn more about Nnora’s feisty sister Dohsan who looks to be an even greater handful. Camille Anthony has written a wonderful story. If you are looking for a quick sensual read, this is it!

White Wolf by Jianne Carlo
Paranormal Shape-shifter Romance- July 14, 2009
4 stars
White Wolf is a Paranormal Romantic Suspense about: Sheff, Grey White and his sister's best friend, Sorcha. Sorcha is in town after her grandmother passes away which brings back a lot of feelings from the past that were suppressed. The plot is suspenseful and interesting because the book involves a mystery that centers around murders that are tied together. Who murdered Sorcha's grandmother? Are the murders tied together?
As Grey investigates and answers these questions, he is scared for Sorcha's life. Both main characters make mistakes, but redeem themselves and grow together. The one character I was really annoyed at was Tanya, one of Grey's flings. The reader knows that he's not really interested in her, but bring up this secondary character a couple of times in the book. I wish the book showed more villain in her. She just seemed to be an annoyance, since we don't know much about her except that she was a fling. Besides that character, the heroine is lovable and the hero is a strong alpha male character who is possessive, dominating, yet completely gentle and loving when it involves Sorcha.
The writing style was different from what I was used to, but the dialog and character interactions were very telling. It was definitely a sensual read. But the steamy scenes were all tied emotionally together, which I really liked. This book definitely made me interested in other books by the same author. I would recommend it to others.

A Hint of Wicked by Jennifer Haymore
Historical Romance June 1st, 2009
4 stars
I loved 'A Hint of Wicked' by up and coming author Jennifer Haymore.
Haymore's writing is clean and crisp. Her book was easy to read and hard to put
down.
The thing that I enjoyed most about the novel were the likeable characters. The story has all the conflict and angst a reader could want. It is a twist on a classic love triangle story. Sophie first husband disappeared and was presumed dead after years of hopeless waiting years she finally decides to go on living. And discovers a new and different kind of love with her best friend Tristan. But suddenly Garrett returns and he is wants his wife back. Sophie has a tough decision to make. It's such a good story. Because there is so much to like about both men, I am sure that some will be disappointed by Sophie's choice. I, however, loved the ending and felt that she did end up with the right man.
This story was so intense because you will love both the heroes and Sophie’s decision is a rough one. I'm looking forward to her next book, which is supposed to be about the man Sophie didn't pick!

When a magical brooch from her grandfather and an old sword are placed in her hands she is transported and discovers to herself in the bed of the man of her dreams. But the MacRaes don’t want the curse broken and as Shauna discovers more about the mysterious curse it forces her to use all of her ingenuity to unravel it, but can she do it before she is killed?
This was a scorching read. Nicole North really knows how to turn up the heat and anyone who loves highlanders will wish they were in Shauna’s lucky shoes! Gavin is super HOT!! Plus this story was complex just when I thought it was resolved it turns and we find more about the curse. The curse definitely made the story more interesting I only wish the story had been expanded on the curse and it’s impact on Gavin and Shauna’s relationship. It was that good! This was a great, short novel you won’t regret reading!

Soul of a Guardian by Angela Verdenius
Futuristic Romance- June 2009
4 ½ stars
Futuristic romance is my favorite genre and Angela Verdenius excels at her craft! Although this is the latest in her series of books this can be easily read by itself. For those who have read her books you will be pleased to know several characters return and this book will make you feel right back at home!
Angela Verdenius books often feature the infamous Daamen traders as her heroes. They are 7 ft tall men who are: easy going, love to have a good time and are extremely attractive. They are also very protective (especially of their woman) and respected in the intergalactic planets.
The handsome Daamen trader in this story is no exception. Heddam is a Daamen trader who mourns the loss of his male friends. They are committed to their mates and as a result, no longer any fun. Heddam loves being single and enjoys life especially when there are so many beautiful woman just waiting for him in his travels. While on an assignation with one of those lovely ladies Heddam finds a beautiful woman hiding in his room with a dead woman at her feet. Heddam is instantly fascinated by her even as she draws her weapon on him.
Tasita come from a secretive planet called Aora. A planet that has lived in peace for hundreds of years. Unfortunately, there was a revolution and she was on the losing side. Now she is a Guardian on the run. As a Guardian she was born with the role of protecting Aora’s ruler, the High Empress. But now the High Empress is dead and Tasita and her fellow surviving Guardians hold the key to the Aora Empire. And the new dictator wants it back, badly. In addition before their High Empress died, she commanded the Guardians to reinstate her rightful heir no matter the danger to themselves. But it looks like Tasita’s luck may have run out as agents of the new order are fast closing in on her hiding spot. Tasita knows she only has minutes and mourns the loss of her fellow Guardian. To her surprise she finds a handsome Daamen Trader with a soft spot for damsels in distress and he helps her escape. Although she is attracted to him Tasita is determined to protect him by leaving him behind. He is an outsider and to reveal the secrets of her planet are strictly forbidden.
Soul of a Guardian is an amazing futuristic romance. I was captured by the story from the very start and I could not make myself stop until I discovered the ‘secret’ the Guardian’s were entrusted to protect. I am astounded at Angela Verdenius storytelling skills. Her ability to create new worlds is riveting. As usual her Daamen hero is stubborn and fiercely protective. When it comes to his woman he will do whatever he can to keep her safe. But the heroine Tasita kept me spellbound. As a Guardian, her duty to her cause and the sacrifices she made were so admirable and noble. I was mesmerized by her: grit, courage and determination. It was her enthralling journey for justice that drove this story and kept me racing through its pages. The more I learned about the Guardians and the planet the Aora, the more I wanted to know! I hope the author will explore more of it’s dwellers in her future books. (Hint!)
Angela Verdenius takes great care and pays detailed attention to her world building but in a way that it does not interfere with the characters or the relationship of the hero and heroine. I love futuristics and the joy of immersing myself into a new and fascinating new world. This book literally transported me into a different place and made me wish I was there! If you enjoy futuristic you MUST try one of her books!

Midnight Master by Cynthia Eden
Paranormal Romance- June 30th. 2009
4 ½ stars
Cynthia Eden’s Midnight Master is a book not to be missed! Her books are guaranteed to keep your interest because her characters are: strong, likeable and exciting. As she continues her Midnight series we are introduced to new players and learn intriguing details concerning the Others. A world filled with: demons, shifters and vampires that co-exist with humans. Although it is part of a series, Midnight Master can be easily read alone. If anything, reading this book will make you rush to read the prior books in the series!
There is whole different world where demons, vampire and shifters mask their true natures. These Others have enormous power and hide themselves from humans even as they live among them. Since finding out there about the Others, Holly’s life has become more exciting but also more dangerous. These supernaturals may be stronger than her but that isn’t going to stop her from finding the truth and reporting it. When one of her demon contacts is murdered, Holly is determined to find justice. She hunts down Noil, a level 10 demon with powers she can’t begin to imagine. Although she needs his help to track down the killer she is troubled by her attraction to the dark and sexy demon. He is temptation itself. When the murderer targets Holly, she only deepens her investigation and learns some hard truths about herself.
Noil’s demon powers are something he tries to hide. His abilities are destructive. When his last lover died he unleashed his powers and the sight wasn’t pretty. He doesn’t regret his actions but holds them and his emotions on a tight leash. When Holly tries to enlist his aid Noil tries to ignore her even if she haunts his dreams. He has no business being with anyone, much less with a fragile human. But Holly has a mind of her own and if Noil won’t help her, she will have to do it herself. And Noil finds he can’t let that happen.
I always look forward to reading any book by Cynthia Eden and Midnight Master was no exception. Her books are always fresh and exhilarating. Her confident writing style flows so easily I hardly realize it before I am almost done. I especially enjoyed Holly’s character. Although she realizes being a human is a disadvantage among the Others she still pursues the truth. She is an admirable crusader that I found a perfect foil for Noil. Noil is mysterious and mesmerizing but he needs Holly’s ‘light.’ I love how he becomes protective and caring with Holly. In addition to the great characters, I also found this story an engaging read because Cynthia Eden’s explores the demon world and she reveals secrets as well as introduces new characters. I can’t wait to see how these new turns of events may change future storylines!!
I highly recommend Midnight Master. But WARNING, once you try it I know you will have to get your hands on the rest of series. As a suggestion, if you are a first time reader of her works you might want to start with the first book in the Midnight series, Hotter After Midnight, which is a wonderful shifter romance.

Megan is a werewolf with a problem. Ever since she was young, the alpha wolf Shaun has been trying to claim her as his mate, isolating her from the rest of the pack. Sure, he is HOT and Megan is flattered but a girl likes to have choices and freedom. So Megan left the pack to pursue her own independence. However, now she is back but only short term to help her sister Ella.
Shaun has plans of his own. He has waited patiently for Megan’s return and doesn’t intend to let her go again. Even if he has to seduce her.
But this Megan never intends on returning to the pack again. Although Megan is attracted to Shaun him she doesn’t want that part of pack life and makes it clear she is leaving again and this time forever. She resents having to change her life for him and feels trapped. Why can’t he change for her?
The scenes with Megan and Shaun are very sexy I loved how the author spent time with the 2 main characters as werewolves and showed their animal nature. I especially loved the section on shifting. Many of werewolf books don’t describe the feel of being a wolf and it seems that the characters are simply just stronger humans. In this novel I could feel how the characters were werewolves and it was a fascinating read.
Terry Pray also spends time explaining the 2 main characters motivations. I especially enjoyed the spunkiness of Megan’s personality. From the first sentence I could relate with her. Megan is an interesting character with depth and emotion. She has a purpose and it doesn’t involve Shaun, she has a separate life that drives her. Pack isn’t important to her. She doesn’t want to be alone but she also doesn’t want the responsibilities of being Shaun’s mate. Megan cherishes her freedom and a life of her own. She doesn’t’ want to be the only one forced to give up her dreams.
Shaun is the Alpha male. Shaun’s determination to have Megan was thrilling but he is also able to reveal his vulnerable side to her. Sexy and dominant but he still respects Megan even as her pursues her into seeing his way. He doesn’t enjoy being the alpha and its responsibilities either. He has sacrificed years for the pack and is angry they don’t respect his choice for mate.
I hope the author continues her storyline. I would love to read more about Simon and Ella and how they will make a difference in the pack. This was a short but complex story with: intrigue, traitors, and power struggle. You will not be disappointed. Strong characters, hot sex and a twisting plot make this story one that will keep you enthralled!

Liliac is an intense historical romance set in New York during the late 1800’s. The hero is a tough boxer turned ruthless tycoon named Sean Griffith. Sean used his prize money and parlayed it into a great fortune and now has a reputation for being cold and heartless. After the last shreds of his love were betrayed by a fickle socialite he denounces love and becomes famous for his orgies where uses women.
But he doesn’t count on the indomitable will of Miss Tegan Ellis. Miss Tegan is a young innocent determined to persuade Sean to stop the exploitation of the mine he own. She plans to explain the plight of the poor and mistreated miners and their families. However, her plans are derailed when she knock at his mansion and is mistaken for a prostitute! Tegan then decides to use her wiles and her innocence to bargain with Sean to improve the conditions of the miners. But Sean is no fool and becomes determined to prove she is the same as all women. He pushes Tegan to prove she is willing to sacrifice herself and pushes her in to games of dominance and BDSM. Tegan is appalled, distressed and aroused. But she will not be deterred.
This was a powerful and passionate historical which lovers of very dominant heroes will be sure to enjoy. Some of the sex scenes I found a bit shocking and they definitely pushed my boundaries. I thought it was a transforming story as the reader sees Sean change and eventually care for Tegan even as he fights it. This made some sections very intense as he seems to cruelly punish her because he begins to care too much for her. Because of this my feeling were a bit mixed. I was overwhelmed by Tegan’s courage and change into a very sensual person. However, I wish Sean had realized his love for Tegan sooner.
Louisa Trent has created a story that is dramatic and realistic. My favorite section is the very end which reveals a very romantic side of Sean which I wish had been explored further.

Delialah Marvelle does great job of telling a story that both entices and enthralls the reader. Her lead characters of Maybelle and Edmund are both compelling and will have readers being instantly anxious to find out what will happen to them. Both the story and the character’s are different from the usual type of historical romance and characters that most readers might be used to which adds to the excitement of the story. She does not regret becoming a concubine but has discovered that she does miss her independence. When the jealous Queen of Sari retires her and gives Sapphire her own palace, she is at first joyous. Freedom to live and be her own person is a pleasure she will never take for granted again. However, Sapphire does not realize that the Queen actually intends to punish her by bestowing upon Sapphire a male concubine that will endanger her life and that of her family.
Wulfric is the Crown Prince and mortal enemy of the King of Sari. When he is captured, tortured and finally given to serve the renowned concubine Sapphire he is outraged. All he can think of his is his hatred and a way to escape. Wulfric’s plan is to seduce Sapphire, use her, and ruthlessly gain his freedom. But Sapphire is more than he expects and he finds himself respecting her and wanting things he knows he should not. He has never before met a woman with the strength of character to match his own. He finds Sapphire an aphrodisiac he can’t live without. Wulfric’s finds himself making excuses to stay despite the peril.
For Sapphire, Wulfric is completely different from the King of Sari. He values her opinion and treats her as an individual plus it doesn’t hurt that his sensual skills rival her own! A heady combination indeed.
As Sapphire and Wulf find themselves unwillingly attracted to each other, both know their love is forbidden. But they cannot bear to be parted. Both are caught in an impossible situation especially since Sapphire’s father is the highest commanding officer under the King of Sari. Their love is a betrayal of family and kingdom.
Livia Dare has written an amazing story in a futuristic landscape that is a compelling and fascinating. The love between the 2 star crossed lovers is a delight for the senses. I was particularly interested in Sapphire. It would have been nice to learn more about Sapphire complex history such as her decision/training to become a concubine and her combat training. My favorite part of the story is how Livia Dare portrays Wulfric. He is clearly an alpha male yet he accepts Sapphire as she is and allows her freedom to be herself. He is confident enough in himself that he does not feel the need to dominate her. The only thing I found slightly strange was the abrupt, somewhat rushed ending. I wish more time had been spent on the conclusion. However, the author will release 2 more books which will hopefully reveal more of the world and characters she has created. I highly recommend this story for those who love paranormal and futuristic romances with some very racy scenes! I thoroughly enjoyed this sensual story.

Tekgrrl by A. J. Menden was a pure pleasure to read! Anyone who loves comic books come to life will enjoy this novel. This is the author’s second book following Phenomenal Girl 5. It helps to have read the first book but is really not necessary.
Tekkgrrl starts with Mindy, a human who was surgically enhanced by aliens to become the most intelligent person alive. But even though she has brains and beauty Mindy still feels inadequate because she doesn’t actually have super powers like the rest of her team. Especially around the hunky Luke her lifelong crush. Determined to change her life she does a mini makeover. But soon Mindy starts to experience headaches and nightmares that center around her time with the aliens and Mindy realizes she must confront her demons or risk going insane.
I grew to love Mindy’s charm and grit. Mindy starts out as somewhat naive and immature but really metamorphosed in to a kick a## heroine! And her ‘hero’ was the perfect match for her! I relished their budding romance and tried to stop myself from rushing ahead because I was so eager to learn more about them.
This story was written with a sure style that was fascinating to read. The one thing I really enjoy about A.J. Menden’s books are her imagination and the ability to switch gears midway through the story surprising this reader with twists that kept me guessing even as I rooted for the heroine. I also admire her ability to bring the reader deep into the relationship between the 2 main characters so you feel invested in their love for one another.
Overall, this book was a fun, light read that I read in one sitting. I especially enjoyed the interactions between all of the heroic team and wonder what the author has up her sleeve for future installments?! I can’t wait to read more of this series and hope she will continue it!

Master Of Craving by Karin Tabke

4 ½ Stars
Master of Craving by Karin Tabke is the third installment in her Blood Sword Legacy Series. The main hero is Stefan de Valrey, one of the most fearsome knights in medieval England. After a terrible battle where he is left unconscious on the battlefield and his sworn brothers are captured he acquires a stroke of luck, and manages to rescue the beautiful princess, Arianrhod. Stefan plans to exchange Arianrhod for his brothers who are now in the hands of the Welsh. The only catch is that she must remain a virgin or he will not be able to liberate his brother which becomes increasingly difficult for him to honor with each passing day that he spends with the enchanting princess.
Even though I don't really read medieval England due to my fuzzy knowledge on English history, I thought this book was really well written. There were no modern slangs and Karin stayed true to the time period. That said, I was a bit confused whenever it focuses on the Norman, Saxon, Viking, and Welsh! Still, I thought the book was well paced with enough 'hot' scenes interspersed. The sexual tension between the two leads was very well developed and exciting. My only complaint is that I thought princess, Arianrhod could have been a bit tougher. I understand her need to escape Stefan, but sometimes her character struck me as unreasonable and too much of a softie. Personally, I like a tougher female protagonist.
All in all, if you are a big fan of medieval romance, Tabke's 3rd installment is MUST a read.

The thing I like best about Lara Adrian’s Breed Series is that she doesn’t take her readership for granted. Each time I read one of her books I learn something new and exciting. I only wish I knew more…but if she didn’t drag it out it wouldn’t be half as intriguing. In her latest installment, Ashes of Midnight we meet perhaps her most fearsome hero to date.
Riechen is a vampire bent on revenge. The attack and ultimate destruction of his family devastated him. As a result, the powers he had long tried to keep dormant resurfaced with deadly consequences. Reichen is a dangerous and unstable pyrokinetic. With nothing left to live for he hunts down Roth, the vampire responsible. The same vampire who seduced and stole the woman he loved.
Claire’s relationship with Roth is an obligatory blood bond. One she never enjoyed. Bound by duty and honor but never love. An arrangement she agreed to while young and naïve. After Reichen broke her heart and when she foolishly trusted Roth.
When Reichen finds her on his search to destroy Roth, Claire and Reichen cannot help their mutual attraction. But to be together is to betray the sacrament of the blood bond. To make matters worse, Reichen can only think of justice, but each time he uses his powers he become less able to control it. Claire fears for his life but knows he will not give up vengeance.
It was a pleasure to read Ashes of Midnight. I was particularly fascinated to learn more about the blood bond. I enjoyed revisiting members of the Order and their breedmates as they played key roles in this story. Lara Adrian delves deeper into vampire society and slowly reveals more about: the Ancient, Dragos (the mastermind), and the new Gen Ones assassins infiltrating the city. Tantalizing glimpses which allude to but do not answer where the final story will lead. The only difficulty I had was that Claire was not as strong a female character as Lara Adrian’s previous books in the series. Claire became tougher later in the book but I wish it had occurred earlier. Her personality made sense and was true to her character but I can’t help liking the feisty/gutsy heroine. But this is still a book that is NOT to be missed. The ending is thrilling and a bit shocking as the stakes get higher but will sure to please loyal fans of this series, even as it makes you long for the next book.

In Bed With a Stranger by Mary Wine
Historical Romance- May 26th, 2009
4 stars
Anna is a reluctant bride and victim to her stepmother’s vicious blackmailing. In order to save her family, she assumed her half-sister’s identity and married a Scottish. Set in the 1500s, this historical romance is a good read that moves along briskly until the end.
I really liked the historical details that peppered this novel. The author really did her homework and I learned a lot of new facts and interesting trivia. The background settings were excellent. The main character Anna is relatable and you do admire her courage, but I found the hero Brodick not as complex as I would like him to be. Brodick feels that he is unworthy of his earldom (a very nice glimpse into his character) and is definitely a noble person; however, most of the time, I feel like his character was rather flat. All in all, it feels like the women in this book are far more interesting than the men.
Mary Wine has a definite knack for pacing and the story never lets up. Towards the end, it gets a bit slow just because we know that the hero is going to come and save the day and like most romance novels, the author must find a way to give readers a satisfactory happily-ever-after. The ‘hot’ scenes are a little too much for me, but that’s a personal preference. Overall, it’s a excellent book with an interesting plot.

Dream Lover by Topaz Jordyn
Paranormal E-book – May 21st, 2009
3 1/2 stars
The story immediately caught my attention. Dream Lover is futuristic romance with a wonderful mix of the paranormal.
Prince Devlin Von Dracol, the Leader of the elite Omega Warriors fights a successful battle with the despised Shadow Dwellers. But as soon as he returns to Headquarters Devlin is summoned by his father the vampire king. As heir, Devlin is ordered to marry immediately in a political alliance! He is shocked that he has only a week before he is to be aligned with a woman of his parents choosing.
Devlin loves his life the way it is and rebels against his marriage but duty is duty and although his father forbids him from making contact with his future bride he defies him and goes to spy on Tankura, his future bride. What he finds is a woman that fires his blood and has both beauty as well as courage. He finds himself unwillingly attracted to her and unexpectedly possessive! Impatient, Devlin decides to seduce her through the art of dream weaving. He creates a fantasy in her dreams that she would believe as her own, featuring him as her lover! But he soon realizes that having her in his dream is not enough for him.
Tankura’s life is a sheltered one. She knows nothing of her betrothed and feels a strong loss at the freedom denied her. She has never even lived, always hidden away from society. Suddenly she is has started to live through erotic dreams starring a handsome, mysterious man. She only hopes her future husband will arouse her equally! But on her wedding day, Tankura is shocked and angered when she finds her betrothal is actually her dream lover!
I enjoyed the intense attraction between the 2 characters but strangely felt a lack of emotional connection between them. The story generally slowed down during the times when the 2 main characters were together. Devlin is head strong and cannot seem to let go of his resentment of having to settle down. Even if he is glad Tankura is his wife. As he quickly grows to love Tankura he still refuses to acknowledge his regard for her. Unfortunately, I became tired with Devlin’s constant battle to try to control Tankura through heated bouts of sex even as he rejects his deep feelings for her. I was frustrated for Tankura since she is truly a worthy heroine. Tankura is left with doubts concerning Devlin since he never confides in her. When Devlin brings a newly pregnant Takura to court where all his past lovers are vying for his attention, the tension between the couple becomes more intense.
This story has many key elements that make it fascinating and exciting. I especially found the subplots absorbing. The Omega Warriors and the evil Shadow Dwellers are fascinating to read and I would really like to read another story where their struggle is featured more prominently. I feel there are many layers to this story and would eagerly read books that continue this series?! I would also like to know the origins of the Shadow Dwellers and how they became such fierce enemies. This is a story/series that has enormous potential and I would like to read more from this author!

When she finally goes home, she is quickly expected to find a mate among the shifters in the Pride. In Alaska, instead of finding refuge she finds herself in deeper trouble! Amanda soon discovers it’s mating season for the bears and two Bear clan shifters, Kam and Regan have caught Amanda’s scent and are determined to make her their own. The invoke and only law, “The Rite of the Victor” which requires Amanda to choose a lifelong mate between these two bears by nightfall or they with have a death match with the winner getting Amanda. Adding to Amanda’s already crazy life she gets involved with a mystery concerning an ancient relic that her mother helped uncover.
The author does an excellent job of developing a story with numerous themes and takes the time to give the reader Amanda’s entire back story. I felt invested with the central character Amanda. The storyline has a little spy/thriller and is highly erotic (includes ménage). It was interesting to learn about the different shifters and their clans/culture. The men in this story are very primal, dominant and thrilling. I especially enjoyed the competition for Amanda’s affections! The only difficulty I had was the writing style for some reason didn’t flow easily for me. But this author has produced a great work with a tantalizing plot that is action packed and sensual.

Unfortunately, our heroine find out she is part of a science experiment and she is being set up for a trap. As both discover their secret pasts they cannot help but be drawn to each other.
McBride world building skills are wonderfully detailed as the scenes transported this reader into another world. I especially enjoyed their intergalactic travel from the Bella Star to Armand's own ship. And the sights and sounds of Oakley parents home planet and New Vegas an orbiting Space Station. This was a fascinating world I would love to revisit!

Forbidden love blossoms between the 2 but is quickly ended by a jealous warrior daughter named Aja. Aja takes the life of Malikinder but, Tanginika is spared by the spirits.

Through it all you cheer on Aleksander who has endured suffering to be with the one he truly loves.
I found the characters well developed and enjoyable to read. The plot is a little out there and a bit difficult to follow at first. I wished that Lee spent more time explaining her story and providing details about the world the characters existed in. I also feel it would probably help to read the first book in the series. But, this is an erotic romance, the scenes sizzle and as such it is definitely worth reading!

Daring Time by Beth Kery
Contemporary Paranormal- May 5th 2009
4 ½ stars
Beth Kery has written a superb novel that seamlessly mixes: paranormal, super sexy characters and high suspense. Her book was a wonderful surprise from beginning to end. At first I was astonished to discover it was a paranormal, time travel romance. For those who do not enjoy paranormal romances, please do not let this stop you from grabbing this book! It in no way detracts from the story but only adds to it’s vibrancy and originality.
Chicago 2008
Detective Ryan Daire is shocked to discover he has inherited an opulent mansion from his old professor. He is more stunned when he immediately starts to have haunting visions of a beautiful woman when he arrives. When he begins to have strangely erotic dreams and finds a book of poetry belonging to a woman named Hope Stillwater he feels compelled to write his name in the book and questions his sanity. But his longing for this unknown woman will not go away. Ryan becomes determined to find the woman of his dreams. When he discovers Hope was murdered, Ryan is shaken. He must prevent her death, but is she really from the past? And if so, how can he possibly save her?
Chicago 1906
Hope is Victorian woman with a purpose. She is determined to save woman form being victimized into prostitution. However, her meddling has brought her enemies. When she tries on a scandalous dress she is startled to see a gorgeous stranger in strange clothing watching her in her mirror. Hope knows she should be worried but she can’t help but be fascinated by the large stranger. She is even more confused to find someone has written Ryan Vincent Daire, 2008 in her book of sonnets. Could this be the name of the stranger? Heated encounters with the mysterious man make Hope long for something elusive. Unfortunately, Hope doesn’t have the time to explore his origins or their encounters because she is suddenly abducted. When Hope wakes, she finds herself at one of the brothels she has tried to save other women from. Hope has interfered one too many times and it is about to pay the price.
Beth Kery’s writing is strong and sure. I love time travel romances but admit to sometimes having trouble believing the time travel aspect. This not the case in this engrossing novel. The characters and their motivations make sense and the time travel aspect was convincing and realistic. What I enjoyed most was the hero’s single minded determination to find and save Hope even if he had to cross time itself to do it. There is something about a man who is that macho and focused on his woman that makes my heart flutter! Plus, Ryan has a naughty dominant streak that heats up the pages and made me hot under the collar! Hope is no wallflower and it is enjoyable to read her resolve and strength of character especially as she is tested throughout the book. This story will also thrill readers who love danger and suspense. It was a joy to read. And a delicious treat that you will not want to miss! My only regret is that I read it too fast.

I typically tend to be more passionate about reading vampire novels when it comes to the supernatural fiction collection. But I could not help but become intrigued with this shifter book! It had all the elements that grab your attention. I found it an exhilarating page turner from the beginning to end.
Werewolf Sanctuary begins with a burst of action that kept me hooked! The author keeps the reader engrossed by explaining the main character’s (Wyatt Weylyn) origin which was highly fascinating. At Wyatt’s wolf sanctuary, the wolf cubs have been succumbing to various ailments including death. Wyatt is on a mission to hopefully cure and resolve this issue.
Maddie is a doctor in the biology of wolves and has a specialty in their diseases as well. She was a wonderful character. I felt deeply connected to her since she went through what many single women go through before they find their soul mates. I particularly was attracted to Maddie’s down to earth personality and courage handling sudden new changes to her life in ways she never expected to happen.
How do their lives intertwine? You MUST read it to find out. This is a guaranteed enjoyable read! There is a generous amount of romance, action, intrigue and paranormal that will keep you energized and wanting more!

I love futuristic romances. And this is a delicious tale that is sure to satisfy anyone’s palate. Trista Ann Michaels slowly and expertly brings the reader into a new world full of: intrigue, betrayal and deception. In addition, to the fantastic world building she takes the time for the reader to really understand and love her characters.
Imagine Earth is being invaded by aliens. Mikayla is on the run with her friend to find her mother. On the way she is abducted by human-like aliens who sweep her off to a spaceship. There Mikayla is forced to work as a bar maid in skin tight clothes as ‘eye candy’ for the men on the spaceship. Resentful and afraid Mikayla is nonetheless courageous as she tries to find independence and a way to escape. Unfortunately, she catches the attention of the 3rd in command to the invasion, Captain Sidious. Sidious is the most attractive man Mikayla has ever seen and she can’t help her body’s response to him. She is torn by her feelings, as their tumultuous relationship progresses. How can she be attracted to a man whose hands are filled with the blood of her people? Mikayla knows she must fight any feeling she has for him. He is the enemy…
Sidious is exhausted. He is actually a spy for the rebels. But the acts he has committed to ‘prove’ his loyalty to the Prime Minister have haunted and aged him. Sidious abhors his actions but tries to remember that eventually his sacrifices will be responsible for taking down the Prime Minister and his reign of domination. However, the invasion of peaceful planet, Earth, and the lovely woman from that planet tests his resolve. He knows he must continue his façade even if the woman he loves despises him. The Prime Minister must be stopped and Sidious’s cover is key to the rebellion. Sidious knows his feelings for Mikayla must come second. Yet Sidious can’t stay away from Mikayla even as he knows it puts her life in danger.
This was a fabulous novel from start to end. I was immediately drawn to the characters and the storyline. It reminded me of a great space opera with very sensual love scenes. The author does not insult the reader with trite or simplistic storylines. Even though the story is a futuristic it felt very realistic. I can only hope this author will continue the series?! Sidious’s brothers Stefan and Taron are equally fascinating. My favorite part of this story were the strong characters. I fell in love with the hero Sidious and wished he were real. Sidious is an extremely noble and self-sacrificing character that is ALL man ladies! He was one of the best heroes I’ve read in a long time. Mikayla is a fun and feisty heroine. I was fascinated by her struggle to reconcile her attraction to Sidious and her beliefs. This was an exciting story that transported me into a new world that I found exhilarating and mesmerizing. 4 1/2 stars
I have read works by C J England and must say her writing only gets better! In More Than a Warrior, she creates 2 different worlds at the cusp of creating an alliance. One that is fiercely war-like and the other enigmatic.
Crown Prince Jhoral is a deadly warrior on a mission of diplomatic relations. While visiting his best friend Prince Dyas from the kingdom of Kylian, he is invited to watch the Kylian culture’s mystical Melding Ceremony. Jhoral is the first off worlder to witness such a rare sight. In this ceremony, female empaths are joined with female receptors that guide and take care of them like children. In exchange, the receptors use them for their own gain. Although Jhoral is disgusted by what he feels are the receptors use and abuse of the poor empaths he agrees to watch the ceremony. Despite his reservations he finds himself drawn to the ceremony. When all the empaths are joined except the last, who is in obvious despair, Jhoral finds himself inexplicably urged to try to help and comfort her in her distress. To his shock the empath, Lanai melds with him!
To Jhoral and Lanai their connection is perfect. They belong with each other. However, tradition has stated empaths may only meld with another female. The leaders of Kylian are also outraged an outlander has been chosen and rally to separate the 2 even if means forcing a break that can cause damage to Lanai in the process.
This was an exciting read that kept my attention. As Lanai and Jhoral fight for the right to stay together. They are tested by: betrayal, attempted murder and misunderstanding.
I like feisty heroines and at first was disappointed by Lanai’s timid nature. However, CJ England makes the reader understand that Lanai was raised to obey. CJ England paints a realistic portrayal of a woman on the cusp of womanhood and with the quiet dignity to overcome obstacles that seem overwhelming. Lanai’s sheltered life is all that she has known and it is a joy to read her transformation into a confident and assertive woman. Lanai won me over and I rooted for her. C J England’s hero Jhoral is a fierce warrior that is both protective and gentle with his mate. A worthy warrior that I adored reading. This was a fantastic story that I could not put down. Although this story was short, it packed a HUGE punch!

Elizabeth Hoyt’s novels are something I always look forward to and To Beguile a Beast was no exception. The author has the remarkable ability to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary. I believe this is because she really takes the time to build her characters throughout the book so readers can’t help but grow to love them. Readers who have read Elizabeth’s Hoyt’s books know her penchant for intertwining fairy tales in her novels. In this Regency she has written a superb romance based loosely on the Beauty and Beast theme.
Helen is a beautiful woman who was seduced by a Duke when she was very young and naive. When she tried to leave him he took her child hostage until she returned. Now a notorious mistress shunned by polite society, Helen exists in a lonely life devoid of any company except for her children. Her actions controlled by the Duke. But Helen is desperate, she see no future with the aloof and distant Duke. She knows she must escape and start a new life for herself and her children. Helen realizes she cannot live in fear. When the unexpected opportunity for a different life appears she grabs it and runs. Traveling in disguise with her 2 children, she see seeks employment as a housekeeper to the reclusive Sir Alistair. However, Sir Alistair is not what she expects. Helen is disturbed by the bitter yet gentle owner and the despairs over the filthy and long neglected castle. But soon Helen realizes that this challenge is just what she and her children need.
Sir Alistair is outraged by his scheming friend’s wife. He doesn’t need a housekeeper especially one who is so desirable. He can’t help his reaction to Helen but vows to push her and her children away at any cost. He doesn’t want anyone, even her charming children. Besides, a woman that beautiful would never want a scared, wreck of a man like him. Alistair knows from experience that woman find him terrifying, if only he could stop himself from thinking of her…
At first I didn’t see how the ‘Beast’ Sir Alistair and the ‘Beauty’ Helen would find love. Their first encounters were fiery and decidedly unfriendly. But the magic of Elizabeth Hoyt’s books are how she develops the 2 characters relationship. She guides the reader from their fist signs of growing admiration to their eventual love. By the end of the book I realized how much they needed each other and how deeply they complemented each other! This book was inspiring, especially as each character realizes the depth of their courage. Helen finds her inner fortitude when she manages the castle and stand up for herself and her children. Sir Alistair stop hiding and braves society to save Helen. A wonderful, glorious, book to read and re-read!

S.J. Day’s new series Marked is: fresh, imaginative and high octane. It blends a hunky hero to die for and a gutsy heroine, thrown into circumstances that are enthralling as well as nail-bitingly suspenseful.
There is a war going on, but most humans don’t see it. The Marked are those special chosen and/or cursed to fight these unholy terrors and save humanity.
Evangeline has never been religious; she has a good life and is content. The only thing she doesn’t have is a man. The problem is that after she met Alec, no other man has matched up to him and she knows none ever will. Alec left her after one night and completely ruined her for any other man.
When Eve is unexpectedly attacked, years later, by a man that looks eerily similar to Alec, she finds her life irrevocably changed. She is now ‘marked’ and dragged into a world of good and evil. Suddenly, the real Alec comes to rescue her and Eve discovers that he too is ‘marked’. Because Alec cares for her, she has been targeted as his one vulnerability. Ironically, he left to save her from his dangerous life, but there is no fighting destiny. Now Eve has a fast learning curve in this new game of life or death. Even as Eve is drawn to Alec, she knows he’s not healthy. The only sane thing to do is try to reverse the ‘mark’, even if she dies trying.
From the first page, this book pulled me in! It is a fast thrill ride that NEVER lets up. I particularly enjoyed how Eve explores this new world of: angels, demons, shifters, etc. The novel is filled with mystery and shady characters that will leave you wondering where they and the story are leading.
For those who love Urban Fantasy and dark paranormals romances, this series is sure to please your palate. However, I do have to caution those readers that enjoy a pat ending, this is the first of the Marked series and the author does leave the ending at a huge cliffhanger. Luckily the next installment is coming soon. If you can’t stand the stress, I would suggest waiting to read all the books at once, if you can!

Storm Glass (Glass, Book 1) by Maria V. Snyder
Paperback - April 28, 2009
4 ½ stars
Maria V. Snyder’s books are known for their surprising twists and vivid imagination. In Storm Glass, she revisits her magical world adding a new and equally fascinating main character named Opal. (For those already familiar with Ms. Snyder’s world, she brings back beloved characters: Yelena, Fisk, and Leif, too!) However, I want to stress to new readers that it is not necessary to have read her previous series to appreciate the complexity and endearing characters in her latest novel.
Opal comes from a family of glassmakers. She has limited magical talent with glass. While other students are excelling in their studies, Opal feels left behind and is nicknamed the “One Trick Wonder”. A lonely outcast, Opal longs for more magical abilities and the close company of her deceased sister. Her only comfort is her glass work and her remaining family who lives away from her school.
But then Opal’s skills with glass are suddenly needed as a dangerous new mystery appears. Stormdancers are dying. Stormdancers are special people who can harness the power of the weather and hold it in glass spheres. Unfortunately, the spheres are mysteriously breaking and, as a consequence, Stormdancers are dying as the storms break free. Opal is called to travel and solve this deadly glass dilemma. On her journey she is met with treachery and intrigue. Opal discovers she has more talents than she realizes and many that she would rather not have.
Storm Glass kept me up into the early morning. For those who have loved Ms. Snyder’s Study series, you are in for a real treat. It was particularly fascinated to read about Opal’s life with her glass production family. The glass felt alive and magical. As always, Ms. Snyder’s books are full of well-developed characters, complex relationships, and amazing plot twists. Nothing is as it seems. This makes her books exciting but also rather nerve-racking!
Although Opal is a different character than Yelena, she does share the same strong moral character and courageous fortitude that drives this book. I could not help but be drawn to Opal and her remarkable adventures. I wonder at Ms. Snyder’s ability to tell a tale full of wonder and intrigue with such ease.
As a side note, this book, as well as all of her other books are not just for adults who love fantasy but are suitable for the Young Adult audience.

Tanya works for Victor as his office manager for his company but due to a night of passion together 6 months ago Victor is convinced Tanya is the one for him but she’s running scared from the feelings his dominant nature evokes in her. Rather than chasing after her Victor proposed a deal with Tanya. She become his submissive for one week and while Tanya hopes this will get Victor out of her system Victor hopes to ultimately prove he’s her perfect match. Victor is a great alpha male who is well educated and I think every woman would like to have a little Victor in their man. Tanya has grace and poise and smarts but fear grips her harder than her need for Victor. This was a great read of human nature with characters that are interesting but also have their own flaws.
Liz Andrews guides the reader through the complex relationship between Victor and Tanya and the reader is better off for it. The reader learns during Tanya's growth and Victor's maturity how to handle new situations and even a few office politics. Victor and Tanya's relationship is respectful of each other and so is Liz Andrew's relationship with the reader while she highlights the budding relationship between these two characters expertly.
In Fire and Ice Liz Andrews introduces the reader to the delicate dance of romance in erotica and she does an excellent job of handling the adult erotica format expertly and I know I look forward to her next book with a lot of anticipation.

In Tom Cat Jones the author Willa Okati introduces readers to adult homosexual erotica at the local grocery store! This is where we meet the main characters T.J. Jones and MacGowan for the first time. T.J. is a shape-shifting tomcat whose true nature has caused him to be burned in his previous relationships so he’s decided to become a grouchy lifelong bastard of a bachelor. Of course that’s until he meets MacGowan who is the complete opposite. He’s a smoking hot beach boy with an open heart and a sweet smile. When the two meet it is love at first sight but these two characters will have a lot to deal with if they want to truly be together. As the story develops the characters must deal with not only T.J.’s shape shifting but also MacGowan’s developing wizard powers and their affect on not only T.J. but also on their whole relationship.
When reading Tom Cat Jones you will find yourself adoring this insightful tale and enjoying an extended insight to the how the male house cat can behave especially when he’s your ideal man. As the relationship between T.J. and MacGown develops the action grows hotter than the midday sun. Willa Okati has subplots of previous relationships which will peak your interest aside from the main characters and make you want to know more about. T.J. and MacGowan. Both character which grow and develop during their time together and become better people for it.
I will be honest the entire erotica genre is new to me but I found the writing of Willa Okati different and intriguing with a true understanding of the desires and needs in an interesting male homosexuality relationship. I also give Willa Okati credit for so much insight in male bonding and the male nature.

Whisper of Warning by Laura Griffin
Romantic Suspense- March 31st, 2009
4 ½ stars
Laura Griffin is a best selling suspense author for a reason. Her books have sharp and clever writing with well-thought out plots that are easy to read. In her latest release, Laura Griffin brings back a secondary character, Courtney. Courtney has had a history of getting into trouble. But this time is really isn’t her fault!
Courtney is upset. She doesn’t want to see her lying ex-boyfriend. She wishes she made better choices and finding out David was married destroyed her faith in men and herself. But David won’t let up and keeps calling her until she finally agrees to meet with him. When she finally sees him he is strangely upset when she was the person wronged in the relationship! Suddenly a criminal holds them up and David is killed. Courtney flees and calls the police only to discover she is the prime suspect!
Will is the detective assigned to solve John David Alvin’s murder. He is anxious to prove himself and troubled with his attraction to his main suspect. He can’t seem to stay away from Courtney. And although he has no evidence that she is innocent, his intuition knows she could not have committed this crime. When Courtney almost gets run down by an SUV he runs to her rescue and realizes his job has become secondary to her well-being. He is getting too close to this case. And if he isn’t careful he’ll jeopardize his career.
Whisper of Warning was a thrilling and immensely pleasurable read. What I loved best were the extremely likeable characters. Courtney means well and has a heart of gold. Will is a hunky hero whose earnest honesty is endearing and highly attractive. Add in the satisfying ending and you have a book that is a joy to read. Anyone who loves suspense novels, well-developed characters, and complex stories will devour this book! I know, I could not put it down.

Out of the Dark by JoAnn Smith Ainsworth
Medieval Romance-March 31st, 2009
Rating 3 1/2 stars
Ainsworth plots out romantic details marked by danger in 1120 A.D. Britain with a honorable man and enabled woman. The reader takes part in the chase and discovery as the author deftly guides the reader through the tumultuous lives of her main characters supplying supporting details allotted in the 204 pages of this tale.
This is a heart pounding read, set in the winter court The reader is given powerful insight into the dynamic world of King Henry's royal home at the River Thames. It introduces Lady Lynnet of Osfirth daughter of Lady Durwyn and Lord Wilgive. Lynnet was blinded at a young age and I found her a very intriguing character. The hero, Basil of Ipswich, Sherriff of London, is man built by the harrowing times of the day, tall, brooding, a tower of strength. The story unfolds reveal supporting characters to be a friend or a foe each marked by the Saxon and Norman warring factions loosely healed. Basil and Lynnet find each other but, the terrors of the times interfere with their burgeoning love. The stature of those in power reign supreme in this tantalizing detailed read as it concludes to an unseen conclusion.
I give this book a 3 1/2 stars for the detailed execution of the what winter court would have looked like, well suited characters true to typecast, and large font type which assists the reader thru the more laborious nature of the English language. This was truly an intrigue that keeps the reader to the final scene.

Her Heart His Soul by Kari Thomas
E-book Paranormal Romance- March 17th, 2009 (Print due in August)
4 stars
Kari Thomas has written an absorbing romance filled with prophecy, suspense and intriguing paranormal elements that will keep you turning the pages! In Her Heart His Soul, the author appears to have started the first book in a series that I suspect will include some very tortured and sexy heroes.
Sara was born with the sight. She has devoted her entire life into finding the book called The Knights of the Night and unlocking its secrets. When she is disturbed by a vision of her father’s murder she rushes to try to save him, only to find herself too late. Determined to bring her father’s killer to justice Sara decides to investigate her father top secret job and enlist anyone who can aid her solve his murder. However, Sara soon becomes the prey as her clues lead her to another murder and she finds herself kidnapped by a mysterious stranger who is handsome as well as dangerous.
Drake is a Knight of the Night. He was destined for greatness but a cruel deception transformed him into a terrifying demon angel. Now he constantly battles his evil ‘demon’ side for dominance. Drake knows Sara is the key to his salvation and abducts her for her own safety. For Sara is the Huntress, the one person destined to find the book which reveals how Drake can remove his demon half as well as save the world in the fight for good versus evil. Unfortunately, Sara doesn’t agree with Drake’s point of view. And to make matters worse, her fire attracts Drake like no other he can remember. Drake knows he must distance himself emotionally from Sara because she stirs passions that ignite his frightening demon side. Duty must come first, the prophecy of the Huntress must be fulfilled. Even if he longs for more…
Kari Thomas has written an enjoyable story that whetted my appetite for more Knights of the Night! Drake is only one among the Knights that appear in this story so I can only anticipate there will be more novels including the other Knights. I am particularly fascinated by the intensely private and darkly ominous Knight Lance and his foster children who have mysterious magical abilities of their own. Her Heart His Soul is definitely worth reading if you love edgy paranormal romances with hot heroes. The only thing I would have liked added to the story would be further glimpses into Drake’s and the rest of the Knights’ past which I hope to be discovered in future books!

Katherine Macara (Kay) is a famous erotic romance author. She is celebrating her first year of freedom from her cheating ex-husband as she attends the Earls Court Book Faire in London. But her plans for a quick trip and stay over at her old college friend's place are suddenly changed. A freak snow storm cancels her plans and she decides to look forward to unexpected time to relax. But her thoughts are rudely interrupted by the sudden and shocking arrival of a wounded and bleeding ex- boyfriend. One who cheated on her. Bryce McKendrick may be as handsome and charismatic as ever but he broke Kay's heart long ago. She knows not to fall for his lying charms again, no matter how nicely packaged. However, a short fling is something else entirely.
I enjoyed the author's insights into writing romance and felt the author's clear love for her characters. Kay was a very genuine heroine. She was a contradiction, feisty and confident but also very vulnerable. Bryce is a very attractive hero who realizes that this time he can't let Kay go. His determination to understand Kay and claim her made for an absorbing story. I enjoyed this short, sweet romance and loved the romantic ending!

The Club by Sharon Page
Historical Romance- Regency - February 24, 2009
4 1/2 stars
The Club is a deliciously decadent novel that in many areas shocked me. (This book explores the seedier side of the Regency era that was salient to the story.) If you haven’t read books by this author before, be prepared for sensuous scenes as well as strong characters that will make you root for them!
Recently widowed, Lady Jane is a woman with a mission. While she couldn’t save herself from an abusive husband; she is determined to save her missing friend. Unfortunately, her friend Del was forced by her husband into participating at the Club, a place where the unsavory world of sexual excess reaches the powerful and wicked desires of London’s higher society.
Lady Jane visits the Club and finds herself stonewalled by Del’s long lost brother, Christian. Dubbed “Lord Wicked” for his well deserved reputation, Christian is the antithesis of all she believes. Although she finds him devastatingly handsome and charming, Lady Jane is fearful of the passion she feels for him. But even as she tries to keep herself aloof from his wild disregard for society, she realizes she feel most safe in his arms.
Christian has always admired Lady Jane even as she cuts him with her remarks. She makes him want to be a better person and although it is dangerous for her to be embroiled in Del’s disappearance, he can’t help but be happy that it allows him to spend time with her.
Sharon Page’s writing kept me on edge, as the mystery behind Del’s disappearance is slowly and expertly revealed. While many writers would revel in the shock value or focus purely on the sexual attraction between the characters. This author takes the time to slowly develop the relationship between the two main characters.
Lady Jane and ‘Lord Wicked’ felt like real characters with very human frailties. I really enjoyed the interaction between them and each seemed to compliment the other perfectly. The riveting love between the two characters rises above and in stark contrast to the scandalous behavior at the Club. As the main characters find redemption and acceptance, they are healed by their love and adversity. The romance between them was moving and by the end of the book I knew they had to be together!
The Club is not the typical Regency romance, but one that will definitely keep you up all night to discover the end.

The first step in her makeover is developing a relationship with her father. She does this by putting her fame to good use as the model for his diamond marketing campaign.
Initially, the allure of Derek not knowing who she is provides Alyssa a departure from the constant attention, but its short lived after her father is killed and Derek is assigned as her body guard.
There is a side story on the origins of blood diamonds. Ms. Alden has done her research on this topic and provides a realistic and compelling view of the many lives touched by the 'stones.'
I enjoyed reading this book. It constantly ‘kept’ my attention because it had so many facets. It was a love story, a murder-mystery and a family drama. This book was well written, compelling story, a great summer read!

Nutcase by Charlotte Hughes is the second book featuring Psychologist Kate Holly.
In this installment, Kate deals with many personal and professional issues such as oddball patients whose mixed and various problems seem to constantly put Kate's life in danger. An eccentric mix of family & friends who constantly need Kate's help and attention and persistent marriage problems with firefighter ex-husband Jay. And if that’s not enough, she’s also concerned that his job is too dangerous
Kate is dealing with all this while also handling her impending eviction from her office and the possibility of needing to share space with her ex-boyfriend Dr. Thad Glazer.
Even though this is the second book in the series, it can stand alone. It is easy to pick up on the story and connect with the characters. Once you read this book you will want to read her others in the Kate Holly series. Kate is a fun character who is very realistic and someone who you can identify with and feel like you'd want to be friends with.
Nutcase is a very fun and delightful mix of romance and comedy. I loved how each character introduced was immediately interesting and wanted to know more about them.

Dominic by Elizabeth Amber
Paranormal Erotic Romance- February 24, 2009
4 ½ stars
Elizabeth Amber continues her daring Lord of the Satyr series in the latest installment of Dominic, a 2 story anthology that smolders with scenes that will shock and delight your senses!
In the first story, Dominic is a Satyr hardened by duty. He is a special hunter and killer of demons, called upon to perform tasks no other Satyr can. Dominic is spurned by his fellow Satyrs even as his skills protect their way of life. But his next mission is the most important of all, to mate with a human female named Emma and create a child of destiny. While Dominic is sent to seduce her, he cannot help but be seduced by her. The trouble is Emma is already married to another Satyr!
Elizabeth Amber's inspired introduction of new storylines and characters was particularly fascinating. She adds plot twists that add tension as well as revealing tantalizing glimpses of the mysterious Facilitator and Acolytes of ElseWorld where the Satyrs originate. For those who loved her previous books, familiar characters also return! (Yes!) Dominic’s story was a thoroughly enjoyable and immersing story. However, I felt it could be difficult to follow if you haven't read at least one of the earlier Satyr books in the series.
This next story is set many years later. It features Nicholas's sons. All of which are pure masculinity! Vincent is Nicholas’s oldest son and obsessed with a Shimmerskin. Shimmerskins are magical females conjured for the enjoyment of the insatiable sexual appetites of the Satyr men, that then disappear the next day. One night Vincent impulsively asks ‘his’ Shimmerskin to stay, knowing it is impossible. To his surprise, he finds her in his bed the next morning! Can she be real?
Cara suddenly finds herself in bed with an attractive man. She is terrified. She knows nothing of her past and struggles to make sense of her situation. Why has she so conveniently come to life and why does she ‘disappear’ for short periods?
This story reads like a mystery, it has a lot of suspense as you wonder about Cara. The end was very surprising. The only thing I felt missing were details about the Shimmerskins I found them intriguing and would have loved to have Cara and her history more fully developed. This author excels at leaving glimpses of captivating characters that leave you wanting more details!
Dominic was an exciting read. For those who love the paranormal and hot scenes this will be a delicious treat. Elizabeth Amber really heats up the pages and shapes her Satyr World in this next defining installment. A word of caution, this author really pushes the boundaries not only in her amazing creative imagination but also in her sex scenes! (There are short M/M scenes as well M/F/M scenes.)
I am particularly interested in finding out more about ElseWorld and can't wait for the next installment which I hope includes Vincent's brothers!!

Riding the Line by Kate Pearce
Paperback - February 3, 2009
4 1/2 Stars
Riding the Line by Kate Pearce is the third in the Cheek Series about three cowboy brothers. This final installment features younger brother Dakota Scott.
While on his way to Los Angeles to start in a commercial for his brother’s boot company; Dakota’s trailer breaks down in a small out of the way town. Since it will take a few days before the trailer is fixed, he resigns to enjoy some down time. However, his plans meet Robyn Sparrow.
Dakota reaches out to help Robyn and finds that a simple act of kindness turns into a string of never-ending acts. While Dakota is more than willing to help Robyn, her cold reaction to his help leaves much to be desire. This is a true opposites attract situation. What happens between this small town and Los Angeles is all kinds of fun. Yet, Dakota can’t help thinking that Robyn looks familiar.
Robyn is a washed-out child star. Her career in the spotlight ended with drugs, money loss and being taken advantage by her family. This makes Robyn a spoiled, high maintenance brat.
Dakota reaches out in a protective way. The interaction between these two characters is sometimes funny, heartwarming, unnerving, and very hot & sexy. Dakota is a very nice guy and true to his niceness, his non-challant reaction to her antics endears him to her and this reader. What will happen when they finally arrive in Los Angeles and Roby’s world collides with Dakota’s and his family?
I like Dakota, but struggled with liking Robyn. Both characters are well match and I enjoyed their dialogue, sexy scenes and developing feelings. The only minor problem I had with the story was the ending. It all came together too fast.
Ms. Pearce’s modern-day cowboy stories are well written and fun to read. It’s difficult not to fall in love with her cowboys!

Marked by Passion by Kate Perry
Paranormal Romance- February 1st, 2009
4 stars
Marked by Passion is a fresh start to a new paranormal series by debuting author Kate Perry.
Gabrielle Sansouci Chin is known as Gabe to friends and patrons at the Pour House she tends bar. Her life is on track. Her first showing at a premier art gallery is about to open. She just has to finish her last three paintings, the center piece to her theme. But, nothing ever goes as planned.
It isn’t the contract she signs, but rather the scroll that she has inherited upon her father’s death, along with the powers that go with it. Her gift or curse rattles not just her, but the earth. Is it just paranoia to suspect she’s being followed or does somebody else want her legacy? And if they do, how far are they willing to go to get it?
Her father’s ghost is attached to the vicinity of the scroll. It is not the best of family reunions. His death has not mellowed his low opinions of her in the least, but it has brought back into her life Paul, her big brother, and for that, she can almost forgive her inability to control the tu chi i.
One final person is new to her calling. A British guy that pushes her every button from anger to lust! But unfortunately, there are no coincidences.
Gabe can’t control the powers of the tu chi i and she’s deadly to anybody near her. There’s only one possibility: get rid of the scroll without anybody else ever finding it. Except during an altercation with one of the people tailing her, she loses the scroll. Things go from bad to worse. Her powers go into a tailspin. The police investigating the crook’s murder seem to believe that if she’s not the suspect, then she has the answers. Fat chance. She’s just as much at a loss as they are.
Kate Perry has written a story with very likeable characters. Gabe has a quick mind and a sassy attitude. It is a story that will have you cheering and crying for her, and things are definitely sexy, hot between Gabe and Rhys.
However, I was frustrated at the story line. I kept thinking I’d find answers to my questions and expectations reached as I turned each page, and yet, I was left hanging until nearly the end of the book. It is well written and suspenseful, but it was not a book I was unable to put down.

Heart of Courage by Kat Martin
Historical Romance Mass Market Paperback - January 1, 2009
4 stars
Heart of Courage is the third book in the Historical Heart Trilogy. This series takes place in the 1800's England. Although women of this period are traditionally reserved and demur, the heroine, Lindsey is no such lady. She is an adventurous, smart, and unconventional young woman who is on a mission to prove her brother is innocent of a series of heinous crimes.
Of course, a woman in the 1800's cannot be out on her own solving crimes, so a work colleague, Thor, agrees to help her on her quest. When Thor is first introduced, he is a stiff, conservative man, but I am happy to say that as the story unfolds so does Thor. As the book progresses, so does the soft vulnerabilities of this proud Viking.
This book begins as Thor does, stiff, but it's a case where patience really pays off. By the middle of the book, you become wrapped up in the story. By the end, it's a book that cannot be put down.
The love scenes are steamy and the hero is strong, but it is the heroine that really steals the show. She's one of those characters that stick with you and in the end; you really feel that she deserves a happy ending. Overall, this book is well written and worth the time it takes to read it.

Body Movers: 3 Men and a Body by Stephanie Bond
Contemporary Romance- January 1st, 2009
Rating 3 stars
Stephanie Bond’s latest series centers around the ideas of an average deck of cards.
Bond plots out Carlotta Wren as the Queen Her suitors are: the Jack, Cooper Craft a morgue employee; King, Peter Ashford wealthy widower; and Ace, Jack Terry, one balls-to-the-walls detective that are ware of each other's making one tightrope act. Supporting characters from the 8 of Clubs, Hollis Carver, 3 of Spades Chance Hollander, and the 10 of Diamonds, Carlotta's best friend Hannah Kizer, these players find bad luck palatable. Carlotta instincts are out of order and she should fold her hand but, throw in the dead body of a paparazzi stricken socialite and Carlotta is like albatross flaying in a torrential storm.
Carlotta is recovering from her fall at the Fox Theater featured in previous Body Mover story, can not catch her breath more or less get her arm to heal while looking over her younger brother, Wesley. Wesley is a Joker interchangeable with the Jack of Spades. Bond exposures the subplots tightly wraps the reader and one word of advice, find yourself in the Atlanta, Georgia and see someone with an impression on their arm reading C A R don't bother asking what model they like.
Stephanie Bond does not spend too much time with descriptive features saving those for the body of the suitors. Bond jumps the reader into the bottomless pit of dangerous intrigue with as much as possible foreshadowing for her upcoming releases expected out later this spring. The author forgoes saving the Queen because she arrogantly expects her readership to follow but, to do so, she will have to begin folding the house of cards.
The novel idea of a numerical series is nothing new, but Bond does save the reader tedious re-introductions though this is where character description is lost being in Atlanta, Georgia lends the reader to a southern accent that isn't existent. Also, the characters are written without typecasting which can be frustrating.

For the Love of Pete by Julia Harper
Contemporary Romance Mass Market Paperback - January 5, 2009
5 Stars
In a typical cold Chicago morning, people are sharking for parking spots, snow is covering window shields and individuals are running late for work. Once in a while, the typical turns into the unusual as detailed in Julia Harper's For the Love of Pete.
The story begins when Zoey Addler's freshly snow-cleared parking spot is snatched by Special FBI Agent Dante Torelli. Dante is running late for work and while attempting to negotiate taking the parking spot; gun shots are heard from the apartment building across the street. In a matter of seconds and like a slow motion action scene, Zoey and Dante observe a man running out of the safe house where Zoey's sister, boyfriend and niece are being protected from the mob. The cold Chicago mornings gets even colder when Zoey and Dante notice that the man running from the apartment is carrying a bundle in his hands- Pete. Without thinking twice, Zoey jumps into Dante's car and a chase to recover Pete ensues. The chase sets into motion a variety of twists and turns. Other characters join the chase which keeps the story moving quickly and the pages turning. While all this is happening, an attraction develops between Zoey and Dante. This is written in a very sweet way. The story doesn't feel forced and neither does the interaction between characters. The development of the story is fast paced including the budding relationship between the two main characters.
This story is full of funny, quirky, twisted characters engaged in funny, quirky, twisted situations. One of the many reasons I enjoyed this story is because of the array of likeable characters. Even the bad guy is likable and that made me wonder how Harper would tie all ends. I was not disappointed!
Harper has a nice charming writing style. Her characters are well developed and relatable. I laughed out loud during some pretty funny moments. This book is highly recommended!
